The Skiing is SO GOOD!!!!!

Ian, as groomer, catches more great shots in the early morning light.

Open, 23º at 7am. The forecast high 32º. Partly cloudy.

All trails open and the skiing is fantastic!!!

  • Don’t overdress. Fewer, thinner, layers.
  • Bring your Maxiglide or buy some here. Put it on once you get here. (Experience speaking.)
  • Ski at your ability level. Skiing on harder trails, with the plan to walk down the hills is a really bad plan. It wrecks the tracks Ian worked so hard to make and makes the skiing for everyone behind you, all day, awkward and more difficult. SO, do not walk in the trail.
  • When you ski  with in your ability level the skiing is safer and more fun.
  • Pay attention to the snow beside the trails. The animals will be moving and you should be able to see some good animal tracks. There was a mink slide spotted on the Blue Jay at the “Junction” a week ago, watch for it.

I am trying to get more pictures of people skiing, so you can see how much fun everyone is having on their skis. But this is the reason I love skiing.

Solitude, the reason I love to get out there and ski.

Another Great Day To Ski

Jonathan and Ian skiing on the Loon.

Skiing on the Loon. Go here to see this photo as a video on Instagram.

Open, 21º at 7am. Forecast high 31º. Four and a half inches of light fluffy snow overnight. Just keeps getting better!

Skiing is about as good as it gets. Grab your friends and your lunch, Maxiglide, or extra blue and get out to ski. With 4 1/2 inches of snow overnight, all freshly groomed, a beautiful day for a ski.

Bring your Maxiglide, or the Swix equivalent. Using Maxiglide is like greasing a pan. You rub it on no wax skis to keep the ski from icing up on days with fresh snow around 30 to 34 º, or if the sun hits the new snow.  Bring yours or buy some here. Rub it on tip to tail and take it with you.

It was brought to our attention this week that we have a mention in Vermont Sports. We were named favorite Nordic ski area in southern Vermont. Check out the article here.

Cliff added a Groomer Photo page you can check out here. I think there are very few people that truly appreciate what the groomers do behind the scenes. Ian has been taking some pictures and putting them up on SmugMug.

This Is Your Lucky Day, Chickadee Is Open.

Open, 21º at 7am. Forecast high 31º. 3 inches of snow overnight. Storm total 20″. Great, fabulous skiing today.

What a day, the skiing yesterday was great. A little grabby and a little icing happening on the skis. Bring your Maxiglide, put it on and take it with you.

Ian is out now grooming on the snow machine “up above”. The picture below is on the Chickadee this morning. He will next take the Ranger and the new ginzu on the “lower trails”.

We may not have won the total snow fall amount. But we have plenty and because it is not as much we are able to work and get good skiing faster. It is your lucky day.

New track on the Chickadee as of 7am on Friday, 3/9/2018.

14 Inches, Perfect For Fabulous Skiing!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

The Ranger with 14 inches of new snow. Resting this morning.

Open, 25º at 6:30am. Forecast high 31º. 14 inches of snow at 5:30am, and suppose to snow all day.

It only snowed here 14 inches. I know there were places where it snowed more. But, you know what, 14 inches will give you perfect, fabulous, wonderful skiing.

Ian is in the snow cat. Jonathon on the snow machine. Chuck is plowing the parking lot. I know they will work all day to get you skiing in great tracks, as long as I get them egg sandwiches. (Chuck’s birthday today!)

The plan is to go around and pack everything out. And then put a track in. Chickadee will be open, but it won’t happen until late today or tomorrow. Ask for specifics when you get here.

I have looked at the long range forecast, this would be a perfect time to come up and ski. Looks like some of the best skiing of the year for at least the next 10 days or so.

One final note. Ian woke at his house in South Derry last night at 1am. Looked out, snowing HARD! Went out and Nika jumped in and sank, over her head, she turned around and went back in. His home location had been in one of the bands of snow that opened up and dumped. He packed his stuff. Hopped in his truck and headed over here to spend the night so he would be able to groom this morning. The snow in his driveway was so deep it went over his headlights and he then couldn’t see. When he got here, he slept in the warming room/yoga studio. It is a great space, and he had a pad and sleeping bag, but. Just what he does so we can all have great skiing.
