Another Fabulous Day of Skiing!

Funny little tracks.

Open, 7º at 7am. 33º is the forecast high, and partly sunny.

All low trails re-groomed last night.  Hard pack powder, really good skiing! The March sun is intense, expect some variable conditions in direct sunshine. 

There are some interesting tracks on Middle Blue Jay. The animals are starting to move again with the warmer weather and the shrinking of the snow pack.  Watch for the tracks, the animals and the scat. Yesterday Mary even saw the squirrel dragging away the pine cone.

Video Skiing Down Backside of Upper Blue Jay

Open, 4º at 7am. Forecast high 24º and sunny! Really great skiing, again today.  Chickadee and Loon closed for the week.

This is Ian’s video. At the beginning look for the tree with 2 shelf fungus, there are also 2 visable chainsaw cuts on the tree. This is Dick’s tree. Dick cut marks in the tree, one fall, a long time ago, at 1 foot, 2, 3 and 4 feet. Three feet and 4 feet are the marks you see. So the snow at the top of the Upper Blue Jay is 3 feet deep.  Now watch this ski down. Aren’t you ready to get up there!!!!! I am going again.
On Sunday we had a first. A wonderful customer now skiing with a service dog. The dog has wonderful manners. He is big and handsome, and I know he will be welcome everywhere they go. He certainly is welcome back here anytime. He is a working dog, so when he is here remember working dog rules, don’t pet him, pretty much ignore him. Ruby is always here and available for loving.  He is a balance trained service dog. The pair of them did better and better each trip around, confidence growing. They had a wonderful day to be out, perfect weather, and perfect ski conditions.

Another Great Day For A Ski

Good Morning Star Shine, Groomers Get the Best View of the Day!!!

Open, -0 at 7:30am. My favorite  temperature. The forecast high 22º. The sun is shining and all is right with the world. The skiing is great and the Chickadee is open again today.

The forecast high yesterday was 23º. It really went to 33º in the sun. That means you need Maxiglide, sometimes, maybe. You don’t hurt anything by using it, and the Maxiglide will keep you from sticking.

The logger on the job up at the Chickadee will be working, starting tomorrow, March 19th, Monday thru Thursday. We plan on opening it again next Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Subject to change with snow and weather.

Lots of Skiers Yesterday.

Fran is in the picture above, she and Rob had just finished the Chickadee and were on there way into the warming room for some chili and then they get to ski home. How lucky are they to get to ski from home?

A Ridiculously Fabulous Redundant Ski Report

Mary in the middle of skiing the every trail.

Open, 15º at 7:30am. Forecast, 23º and cloudy, with the possibility of snow showers. Really, right this minute, the sky is blue and the sun is shining. And the skiing is so, so good and wonderful!

The photo above is Mary. She and Brian decided yesterday, while the skiing is great,  was the day to ski every trail. Someone asked me the other day how long that takes. The answer is anywhere from 2 to 8 hours. Mary and Brian skied all trails, at a leisurely pace in 5 hours, including food and pit stops. What a great day to ski it all!

Our friend KO is here skiing with her brother’s friends.

KO’s brother Ben invited some friends from Alaska. Ben then ditched the friends to go win a couple ski races. So being the nice big sister, she brought his friends here to ski. KO skied on her no wax racing skis. She told me they are slower on the downhills. But when waxing is non-issue, it is sure easier and more enjoyable to get some classic skiing in.
