Limited Skiing, Season Pass Holders

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open for season pass holder.

13º at 7 am. Expected high today 25º.

The skiing is skiing. Yesterday one season pass person came out and skied the Woodcock, Snow Goose. He said, ‘Thank you for being open for allowing me to come ski.” He added, “There are wet spots.” I also skied the Woodcock, Snow Goose and picked up sticks. The skiing is bumpy and the snow has shrunk. The new snow that fell on Monday night made it skiable The Turkey will be the same.

On the other hand, the Peregrine, is skiing pretty nice. It is hilly and bumpy, but was designed for low snow.  This photo was taken last night, 12/4/2018 and is a group of skiers getting together on Tuesday nights through out the season and skiing loops on the Peregrine with a head lamp, just for fun. (I think there is a time trial involved somehow.)

24º at 7am. It snowed a little over night and stuck to the wet snow. Should be ok. Watch for tree debris and wet spots.

Stay on the low trails. Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey. No tracks or grooming right away. We will be working to fix wet areas and then we will start grooming.

Ruth Ann, our neighbor, has been making her way around the Chickadee and Loon picking up and tossing sticks and branches. Isabel, a different neighbor, has also been tossing sticks up above. This is the beech tree Ruth Ann reported in to Ian. And Ian and Bill, other neighbor, went out, cut it up and removed it. Don’t you want to be our neighbor?

Waiting For The Cold Air To Return

Closed.

39º at 7am.  This is the high for today. The temperature is suppose to drop all day with a low tonight of 20º. The snow will need to dry out and freeze up before we can start to work with it to get skiing again.

We had a mix of weather yesterday. Sleet, ice, freezing rain and rain. There was some lightening and thunder. We still about 18 inches of snow on the ground. So most,95% or so, of the trails are still covered. There were wet spots out there before the rain and so those wet spots will be a little bit bigger. We will put out more balsam branches, and shovel more snow on top.

Hi-ho, hi-ho it’s off to work we go. Ian and Andy went out yesterday and cleared the Middle Blue Jay, from last Tuesday’s storm. I say it like it was easy. They were out 4 or 5 hours. They were on snow shoes in the thunder and lightening walking 8 times farther than the length of the trail to get all the debris cut up and thrown out of the trail. Jonathon was part of the work detail, but pinched his saw in the first tree he found, a huge old maple, and he and Chuck spent the rest of the time getting it unpinched and unstuck.

This is another picture of the skiing tree cutting. It was fun! This is the bigger family tree, Ian pulled it down. If you saw the picture of the tree I was pulling yesterday it was only about 6 feet and was for Catie’s bedroom. Pulling the trees out left a smooth trail and a really great design in the snow. Catie said it reminded her of the Starry Night painting.

Well Yesterday the Skiing Was So, So Good

Closed.

32º at 8am. Half an inch of sleet, ice, and freezing rain.  Everything is covered and shiny. Pretty, but not a good thing.

We will be closed until? We need the snow on the ground to freeze up and dry out. And new snow to fall, and then, we will be good to go again. As we always do, we will be open again as quickly as possible.

The next photo in the Peregrine hat club is Chuck, Ian and Dick. Ian and Dick examining the shovel. I guess this means they are real Vermonters. Standing around talking about the broken shovel. “It was a good shovel. The snow doesn’t stick to this shovel. It lasted about 5 years. That is a long life for a shovel at Wild Wings. I remember when I used that shovel to shovel the entire wet spot on the outer Snow Goose. The new shovel won’t be near this good. Maybe this one will go the rest of the winter” Yep, good Vermonters.

And in case you missed skiing yesterday, below is a short video of skiing the downhill close to the end of the Peregrine.
