Coming Up, Three Days In A Row Of Pretty Good Skiing

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 17º at 7am and it is partly cloudy right this minute. There is snow expected today. We are in the 3-5 inch range.

We woke up to 2 inches of snow yesterday morning, it then snowed all day, Amazing how little snow it takes to really make the skiing better. Ian has a track in on the Woodcock, Snow Goose, Peregrine Turkey and Grouse. He is out on a machine right now. grooming away.  And while I may not know exactly where he is at this moment, I know he is making the skiing better for you.

The weather and how it will affect the skiing,  suppose to snow today, 3-5″. Skiing on Saturday will be great, 23º and partly sunny and Sunday will be good skiing, partly sunny, 32º, you will need Maxiglide on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday are forecast for rain and 40º, if that happens we will be closed those two days and maybe until we get more snow.

1.8 Inches of Snow Over Night, And A Track Gets Put In

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 29º and snowing, 1.8 inches overnight, great little gift.  The temperature is suppose to drop during the day.

Ian is putting a track in the Peregrine, Woodcock and Snow Goose. It will be decent, thin early season skiing. The Turkey and Grouse are also open. About 10km.

Throw your Maxiglide in the car just in case the snow gets sticky. The snow got sticky yesterday about 3:00pm, I really do not expect the snow to get sticky today. But I didn’t expect it yesterday either. The point being, if you need it, you need it.

About the use of Maxiglide: Using Maxiglide is like greasing a pan. Sometimes you need it and sometimes you don’t. The snow sticks to no-wax skis around 32º, so 30º to 34ºish. Rub it on tip to tail. The whole ski! If snow is already sticking to the ski, scrape it off. Maxiglide can be used anytime. There is not a, “do not use this”, time. But if you have been out and the snow sticks to your skis it is miserable. Any questions come ask. We all love to talk about Maxiglide.

Day 2

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 23º at 7:30am and cloudy.

This picture is from yesterday. It is cloudy today, but the skiing looks like this.

The snow is thin in spots, especially under the hemlocks. But, in most places the skiing is ok. You might hit a root or a rock; avoid the high spots.

The fields have a track in. No track in the woods. The snow has firmed up and the skating will be nice.

We had 7 skiers yesterday and they were all very happy and relieved to be outside and on their skis.

Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Peregrine, and Grouse are open.

And We’re Open. Read the whole report!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 22º at 7am, and cloudy. 3.4 inches of snow last 24 hours. Storm total, 11.7 inches of snow.  This feels weird, but almost 12 inches of snow and we feel like it was a dud.

Ian has been around and around packing out the trails. Parts of the trails are decent, and parts are really thin. Remember, we had no base to start with. This storm was light snow and packs down easily, leaving some areas thin (especially under the evergreens). We were just north of the large amounts of snow. But snow is snow and this gets us started.

Peregrine will ski the best. Woodcock and Turkey are ok. Snow Goose is thin, especially under the hemlocks. Middle and Upper Blue Jay, and Chickadee are closed waiting for more snow. Plan on no classic track, and the skating will be soft. There are a few rocks, stumps and sticks. BUT, we get to start skiing!
