All trails open. Cold, slow snow.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 7 am is -3. The forecast high is 4º with snow starting around noon.

All photos in today’s post are from yesterday. The skiing is fabulous. Photos below, left to right, are: Peregrine, also Peregrine, Alex’s photo from her Ski All The Trails In One Day ski. The last is a photo of Cliff’s ski to measure the snow at Dick’s tree spot. Up on the top of the trail system, on Upper Blue Jay, Dick had a measuring tree marked for years but it rotted and fell over. Cliff used his ski to measure the snow pack there and it measured 21 1/2″.

And now about “the storm”. We are in the 18″ to 24″ range of snow. This snow is going to start falling at 4º. With the temperature that cold, the ratio of moisture to snow is predicted to be 20:1. Meaning 1 inch of water will make 20 inches of snow.

We will be grooming early on Monday, but it does take time. Even after grooming on Monday morning, the snow will be soft. Skating will be soft until the snow sets up.

The sign up sheet is on the black board for Ski All The Trails In One Day, AKA Full Feather. Now it has been changed to Full Flock by “the committee” yesterday. Three people put their names on the list yesterday. We have quite a few good weather days coming up if you want to get your name on the list.

All trails open. Cold, squeaky, slow snow.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 am is -13º with the forecast high at 2º. A dusting of snow overnight.

All 25 km of trails are open. Packed powder base. Hard squeaky snow. Cold snow is slow snow.

Ian and the Pisten Bully groomed the low trails last night. Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk, and Peregrine.

Jon and the snow machine groomed Middle and Upper Blue Jay.

Dress for success. Grab your warm gear. No cotton! Notice the bold print. Dry socks once you get here. Mittens not gloves. Hoods are great they go up and down easily, and protect you from the wind. Neck gaiters. Wool is a really good layer. If you stop skiing and are going back out, put on dry mittens at the very least. When it is cold out consume enough calories. And even in the cold you will sweat. A dry shirt for the ride home feels really good.

We will be open Sunday. As of right this minute the snow should start around 11 am. We are in the 10 to 20 inch range. Snow doesn’t fall ready to ski and for the first 24 hours it will be soft. Snow takes time after grooming to set up. I will let you now Monday morning how much snow fell and a projected time frame for getting all the trails ready

All trails are open, twenty-five km. Skiing is good!

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 am is 14º. The forecast high for the day is 18º, and today’s high is warmer than Saturdays forecast.

All trails are open. Everyone who has been waiting for the Loon and Middle and Upper Blue Jay: today is the day. Ian groomed all day yesterday and has them open and ready for more snow. There are a few “sporty” spots.

Skiing is really good. And I will say it again, today is warmer than tomorrow will be. Low trails are groomed with a track and a skate lane. Chickadee, Loon, Upper and Middle Blue Jay are all classic only.

Today’s photo is thanks to Amanda. The video is on Instagram and is stunning.

A note about the upcoming weather.

We will be open on Saturday, it will be cold, but in Nordic skiing you can keep moving and create your own heat.

Sunday, we will make a decision Saturday night or Sunday depending on the final track of the storm.

Monday, it depends on how much snow we really get. Snow doesn’t fall ready to ski. We will get there as quickly as we can.

New snow, four and a tenth inches. Great skiing on 17 km.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 5:30 am is 22º. The forecast high is 31º. 4.1 inches of snow last night. 17 km open for skiing.

Really good packed powder skiing. Grooming this morning on the low trails, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk, and Peregrine. Nice track, and good corduroy.

But, with new snow, and the temperature around 32º, on wax-less skis you will need Maxi Glide. Ask in the shop if you are unsure.

Chickadee is open, and dreamy. Give yourself enough time on the Chickadee to stop and enjoy the scenery.

With this snow and the forecast snow we are getting ready, for the Full Feather, otherwise known as the “ski all the trails in one day” accomplishment sign in. Keep putting in the kms so you are ready put your name on the list. The oldest on the list last year was 84, and the youngest on the list was 9, 25 km in a day is a good ski.
