25 km classic and 7 km skate.

Covid protocols. We are learning and tweaking. Please be patient.

Fill out your Covid tracing form online. Or at Wild Wings if you need to. We need to know who is here everyday. If you have a season pass, and you have filled out 1 form, then sign your name on the clipboard for the day.

See here for the Vermont State Covid Protocol rules.

Photos today, used without permission, thanks to Tim Medland! I pulled them off Instagram, Thanks Tim!

PS. The National Weather Service is sending a Meteorologist to Wild Wings, Peru, Vermont to investigate our snow total. If he agrees with the measurement of snow. Peru, Vermont will hold the record, storm snow fall total for the State of Vermont. Holy smokes.

44.8 inches of snow, Storm Total

Open, 5º at 6:30am and clear sky. 44.8 inches of new snow. The snow settled overnight down to 31 inches.

Open today; Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey and Grouse. The snow on these trails firmed up a bit overnight. Maybe Peregrine, Ian has been trying but getting stuck a lot. The tracks are going in nicely. But it is a better day for classic skiing. The trails are still soft.

That was quite a storm. The average snowfall rate was 3 inches an hour for about 12 hours. It is the biggest one event snowfall in all the records we’ve been keeping. And the water content was low. This is light fluffy , sparkly snow.

Ian is formulating a plan to get a machine around the upper trails. I will let you know as soon as he can get that started.

There is a wet spot on Snow Goose. I know weird huh! We have had cold weather and the ground was frozen before the snow. The snow insulates the ground and it warms up the earth, and it gets wet under the snow. Just a little bit of useless knowledge.

So, get outside. Go skiing. Stay safe. Mask up around the base area and where you can’t maintain distance from others. And make sure to sign a contact tracing form. Either online or on paper here.

A shot of Ian in the groomer from yesterday around noon.

24 inches of snow. Been a long time…

Closed today, Thursday. Open tomorrow, Friday. You will need to fill out a contact tracing form, available onsite or online. For season pass people, one contact tracing form with all the info, and then sign your name here on the clipboard each day. And masks for the parking/base area, or when you can’t maintain distance from others.

13º and snowing. As of 7am we have 29.6 iches of snow from this storm. Light, fluffy, sparkly, beautiful snow. The woods are quiet. “The only other sound’s the sweep of easy wind and downy flake.”

The photo above; Ian in the Ranger, left in the photo, Chuck in the tractor on the right.  Plowing is going ok, although slowly. Ian is in the Ranger, not pulling anything and is struggling on the uphills. Right there in front of the barn, two tries to get up the hill.

Snow does not fall from the sky ready to be skied on. And that is why we will not open until tomorrow. Snow this light and fluffy will get packed all day, and then set up over night and skiing will be good tomorrow, but still soft. As it sets up and hardens up it will get better.

And the Covid Shed is done, fastest shed ever, and longest 8 days ever.

One more place for you to get out of the weather, safely. Still cold, but out of the wet snow and cold wind. We will also sell tickets out of the shed. And we will have Covid contact tracing forms, the paper forms. In case you didn’t fill out your form online here.

Vermont Covid Travel Rules: We have no say in who can come to Vermont and who can’t. Please see the guidelines from the State of Vermont to know what the rules are.

Now, the weather. The forecast is for snow. We are in the 10-18 inch range. This snow will be light and fluffy, and is not the best base building snow. But snow is snow and we will happily take every flake.

Ian will be packing on Thursday, with high hopes to be open on Friday. I will post here again tomorrow with the updates.

You now also have the option to buy you passes online before you even get here. Come up to the shop and we will then just hand you a map and a paper ticket.

See you soon!!!!!
