44.8 inches of snow, Storm Total

Open, 5º at 6:30am and clear sky. 44.8 inches of new snow. The snow settled overnight down to 31 inches.

Open today; Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey and Grouse. The snow on these trails firmed up a bit overnight. Maybe Peregrine, Ian has been trying but getting stuck a lot. The tracks are going in nicely. But it is a better day for classic skiing. The trails are still soft.

That was quite a storm. The average snowfall rate was 3 inches an hour for about 12 hours. It is the biggest one event snowfall in all the records we’ve been keeping. And the water content was low. This is light fluffy , sparkly snow.

Ian is formulating a plan to get a machine around the upper trails. I will let you know as soon as he can get that started.

There is a wet spot on Snow Goose. I know weird huh! We have had cold weather and the ground was frozen before the snow. The snow insulates the ground and it warms up the earth, and it gets wet under the snow. Just a little bit of useless knowledge.

So, get outside. Go skiing. Stay safe. Mask up around the base area and where you can’t maintain distance from others. And make sure to sign a contact tracing form. Either online or on paper here.

A shot of Ian in the groomer from yesterday around noon.

Looks wonderful! Unless something changes, we will be visiting virtually only as we are from Connecticut. Let’s hope the snow continues!
    Happy skiing.
