13.1″ of New Snow (edited at 10:50am)

Open 27º at 10:50am and dropping all day 5º for an overnight low. 13.1 inches of new snow! We stayed all snow!

The skiing is really good and will just get better! And for today a work in progress. Everything is going well.

Ian has a track in all the lower trails. Chuck used the snow machine to pack the Middle and Upper Blue Jay, and the Chickadee. You can ski those as is. Chuck and Ian will continue to work on the trails. I know they want a track in all the trails by the end of the day. The tracks then will set up overnight (with the colder temperatures) and the tracks tomorrow will be firm and hard, vs today, they tracks are a little softer and slower.

This was not the fluffy, airy, cold snow. This 13 inches is heavy. This was the kind of snow that looks blue and smells wet. As the wind blows it is drying out.

16 km, Turkey, Grouse, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Goshawk, Lower, Middle and Upper Blue Jay open packed and tracked. Upper and Middle Blue Jay,  are  packed with the snow machine. Track to follow. Chickadee, not today, hopefully tomorrow. No guarantees.

Open, 14º at 7am. Forecast high 32º This post updated at 9am.

Ian is out in the new rig. What a rig it is.  Look at that track! It is snowing and the skiing is great. Great day to break out the goggles or clear lens glasses. We haven’t had a snowy day like this in a while. It is fun. The forecast Chuck is quoting was up to an inch an hour this afternoon. Woohoo!

And it sounds like more snow is on its way this week. I will say it again, I am loving February.

New side by side groomer update, the wiring was successful. Working, not quite the way it had been expected to, but working. With plans hatched to fix/upgrade a few of the wiring pieces. Ian did a great job on the wiring, I am so glad that was not my job, my heads spins just trying to envision connecting all the wires to connectors. If you bring Ian a breakfast sandwich from Bromley Market, I bet he would give you a demonstration of the new set up.

Yesterday Chuck pulled and reset the culvert on Chickadee. It had also washed out in the last two rain events. Today he is up shoveling snow back onto the culvert, He also informed our buddies, the loggers, that we would be sending skiers up on the Chickadee next weekend. The trail will be in great shape with the exception of the 200 yards of trail where they are logging. But with all the snow that is coming, we are going up there.

New machine, new groomer, new web site. Whew baby.

Open for skiing and the skiing is really good.

Jon checking out the new groomer.

You are reading the new web site. The new web site is why we went offline for a bit today.

Many of you have seen the insulation and new siding in the shop. We are staying warm and using way less wood. Busy, busy!

Snow and the New Groomer!! Life is Good

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open

0º this morning and the weather is fine. We have new snow and the skiing is fabulous.

Yes, I know the temperature is on the colder side. But, the snow is good, the skiing is great. Get out your warm clothes, and hand warmers if you need them in your mittens. (See below for dressing warm tips.)

The new groomer is here and on it’s way to working. Arrived yesterday, via Harry who imparted words of knowledge that only come from experience, and is about ready to go. A little more wiring, a few more new holes drilled into the new side by side, fingers crossed and away we go. Just in time for more snow. Chuck in his spare time, added up the forecast snow from Weather Underground for the next week, and the total was 22 inches. Remember that is the forecast, but, if it really happens, you heard it here first.
