The bluebirds are back at the bird houses down in the field by the vegetable garden. I always enjoy seeing them. It means spring is here when Chuck puts the houses back up. I even broke out the binoculars to check out the male today. Above photo, male is the darker blue.
A few fun facts: nests are made of grass, pine needles, fur, and twigs. Bluebirds have faced competition with invasive sparrows and starlings for nesting spaces. Putting up bird houses has helped the populations increase. Bluebirds can reach speeds up to 17 miles per hour in flight. Bluebirds are only found, and are native to, North America.
I am outta here for 11 days. Going to see my mom. I leave on the 11th and I will be teaching again the 24th.
