Spring means constant change. Cold, snow, melt, freeze, thaw. It is quite a cycle.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 am is -6. The forecast high is 21º. The sun is shining and the sky is blue.

We have been pretty spoiled this winter. Cold temperatures and snow means the skiing has been consistent. And this year that happened to be consistently good.

But the warm temperatures on Saturday causes everything to change. The skiing is faster now that the temperature is cold. I hear people say they loved the skiing so much today, they skied the Loon twice. And I hear people say that down hill was fast and scary. So here I am stuck in the middle trying to explain to you how your day will go. I don’t know, depends on your ability. It depends on where you decide to ski. It depends on which skis you choose to ski on today. Fatter wider skis will be slower. You might need that. So make good choices.

The low trails will be the easiest skiing for Monday. He spent a lot of time on the Chickadee last night with a groomer, and it will be good skiing for some people.

As always your decisions affect you ski experience.

Spring skiing is variable. South facing slopes get soft sooner, and shady trails will be faster.

March is coming in like a lion. Groomed out with a little new snow. Good skiing again today.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 7 am is 22º and snow is falling on top of the new grooming.

The snow is grooming out nicely, with new snow on top and mixed in. Another really good ski day.

All trails are open. Upper trails have a classic track and the lower trails have a classic track and a skate lane. The above photos are at 6:30 this morning.

Do be careful in parking lots and driveways when you go out, the new snow covers any shiny ice from yesterday’s warm weather and sunshine. Our parking lot is sanded this morning. Just be aware when you are out and about.

What a day yesterday was. The skiing was good. The snow changed during the day, going from mid-winter condition to slow and springy by 9:30 am. And there are 9 new names on the board. When I mentioned it was harder because the snow was slow, what was repeated by skiers was, “it made the up hills easier.” Two of the skiers on the board dislocated shoulders this season and are back at it. A few of the skiers had no idea they could ski that far. The list is impressive. This year all the trails have been open a lot, that doesn’t happen every year.

Also impressive this year are some of the snow banks. Check out the snow banks after the road crossing on the Woodcock. Ian pushed the snow banks back up and out of the way with the snow cat.

Grooming is done and it is going to be a great spring ski day.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 7 am is 20º. The high temperature today is forecast at 44º.

The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the snow is fabulous. Lower trails all groomed last night, upper trails groomed this morning.

Another great ski day.

The temperature will be warm enough you won’t need Maxi Glide for sticking snow. My dermatologist would be really happy if you put sun screen on your face.

Blue sky, sunshine, starting at 5º going to 34º. What a day to ski.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 am is 5º. The forecast high today is 34º. The sun is shining and the sky is blue. The snow smells wet and we are creeping toward spring.

The skiing is phenomenal, changing toward wetter snow as the temperature heads toward 32º around noon. Maxi Glide will be recommended for no wax skis late this morning. All trails are open. Upper trails are groomed with a classic track. Lower trails have a skate lane and a classic track.

The photo above is from the day last spring when Reid, had just turned 9, wanted to ski all the trails. Ian said of course he would go along thinking they would go as far as a 9 year old energy and attention span would last. Well it was a slow 25 km, water and food breaks as needed. But that little kid just kept going. He did his 25 km last year on the last day we were open.

And Tim did his 25 km yesterday. The list is growing.
