Low trails groomed this morning, nice skiing. Upper trails groomed yesterday morning.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 7 am is 24º. The forecast high is 29º. Snowfall is expected late today.

Photo above on the left is from Saturday morning. Photo on the right is today. The snow has groomed out nicely this morning. The classic track and the skate lane are beautiful.

The upper trails were all groomed yesterday morning. We had a slight glazing overnight and the upper trails might be a little slippery for the first skier or two, except that is now changing. Big old snowflakes are falling and will slow it down. I guess what I should say is spring is on it’s way and change is constant. Below are photos from Saturday on the upper trails.

And some photos of just how beautiful the snow and the light can be, if only you are there to see it.

And……..our friend Jim S. skied the Birkebeiner yesterday. The 50 km skate. Whew Jim, we are proud of you out there in your Mad Tom Nordic jacket. Good job. In our book you are right up there with Ben! Way to go, that is a long way.

Eight inches of snow, and snowing. Grooming in progress. This will be a Maxi Glide day.

Open at 9 am. 26º at 6 am. Eight inches of snow and snowing lightly. The forecast high today is 32º.

Grooming is happening as I type. The lower trails will have a classic track and a skate lane. The skate lane might be soft.

The upper trails will have a classic track. With grooming happening this morning, check in the shop for a current schedule.

This snow is wetter than the snow that has fallen most of the winter. Snowflakes from this storm are on the chart in the 20º to 30º range. Friday afternoon there was a little sleet mixed in. We have had such dry snow this winter, 12 inches of snow to 1 inch of water. Today’s snow will be about 6 inches of snow to 1 inch of water.

On wax-less skis you will need Maxi Glide. (I only hyphenate wax-less to keep spell check happy.) Maxi Glide on your skis will keep you happy.

Waiting for the first flakes to fall for the skiing to be fun again. The skiing early is very sporty.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 am is 28º. The forecast high is 30º, with snow starting just before noon, between 7 and 10 inches expected.

Yesterday was warm. Ian groomed last night and what that means.

The snow was soft late yesterday, so it groomed flat beautifully. Keep reading! The track is nice and the skate lane good. BUT, it is now hard and sitting there waiting for snow. Words that have been thrown around this morning, sporty, frozen granular, crispy, fast, really fast. There are skiers that would enjoy this skiing, it is fast. But most of us will enjoy it after the snow starts falling.

The ski surface is now perfect for the new snow to fall onto it. As soon as the flakes start to fall it will slow right down.

So patience, today, is your friend. The decision you make with timing and where to ski will affect your experience. Chuck’s mom used to say under certain circumstances conditions change and a green trail becomes a blue trail etc.

The skiing is ok. The snow will soften and the skiing will slow down as the temperature goes up.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6 am is 23º. The forecast high is 37º.

The skiing is not as hard and fast as I thought it would be. We are to the point where I have to walk down to the barn before I type.

Skiing is ok. Ian is in a grooming freshening up the top. And the snow is only hard and fast in a few spots.

The sun is out and it will be a good day for a ski.

Looking forward, predictions of snow on Friday/Friday night. Back to more wintery conditions for the weekend.
