The Skiing Is Good, Might As Well Ski

I know where this is, the skiing up there was great Wed. and Thur. Photo Cliff Dutton

Open, 21º at 7am. Forecast high 39º, and snow showers and rain showers.

All trails are open today, except the Loon. The skiing Wednesday and Thursday was amazingly great! Today will be good, the temperature will be warmer, but the snow is still great. We are skating today on Turkey and Grouse only, Peregrine is groomed for classic skiing (see photo below).

We have plenty of snow. The temperature will warm up a bit today and the snow will change. Such is the life of a snowflake. Ian will spend hours in the groomer in the middle of the night and the skiing will be good, but a little faster. This seems to be the pattern. If you want to know why, The Single Chair Weather Blogger from Mad River Glen blames it on snow in Hawaii. Yep. But, we are doing great, holding the snow and getting the skiing good again ASAP.

How am I doing Coach? On the Peregrine. 2/14,2019

Above is a photo from yesterday’s high school race. The skiers enjoyed blue skies and perfect ski conditions!

What a great day to ski! 2/14/2019

Open, 19º at 7am. Partly cloudy skies. Forecast high 25º with peeks of sunshine. Storm total 9 inches of snow. Ian groomed again last night. All trails open, (except the Loon). 22 km classic, FABULOUS! and 2 km skate. Skate will be softer and more difficult one more day.

Getting on your classic skis and getting up on Chickadee and Upper Loop of the Blue Jay. Priceless.

FISH CHOWDER! Ok, folks, today is the day. Dick brought in fish yesterday. 5 pounds of a nice white fish. I have the bacon, onion, celery, potatoes, and cream. And fabulous skiing and fish chowder, what a combination!!!!! Don’t miss it. The soup would be better tomorrow, but we have only had second day fish chowder once, in all the years. My advice to you is don’t wait.

The sun peeking through. Oh, what a day! 2/14/2019

7 Inches Of New Snow (More falling)

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

The Ranger with 6.5 inches of new snow.

Open, 22º and snowing at 7am. 4 inches of snow Tuesday afternoon. Sleet all night turning back to snow sometime before 4am. For a grand total of 6.5 inches of snow as of 7am. 7 inches by 8:30am.

Ian is out on a the snow machine pulling the roller. He has all the trails rolled out and packed. He is going to put a track in the Woodcock and Snow Goose. 22 km total groomed out. This will be one the soft snow, quiet woods, beautiful ski days. Better classic skiing, skating would be difficult in the soft snow.

The forecast high temperature today right around 30º. You might need maxiglide. Flurries possible overnight with a low temperature around 16º. Partly cloudy and 27º on Thursday. Really nice day for a ski! The skiing Friday will be fine, the weather a little funky, and the weekend looks really good! In fact, great!

So, here’s to another round of snow. Everything is beautiful again. Remember snow is like kindness, it beautifies everything is covers.

Stay tuned, If Dick can get here, today, Wednesday, with fish, then tomorrow, Thursday, will be fish chowder day. WOW!

Snow Storm Deja Vu

Tuesday JISP day.

Open, 3º at 7am and clear. Beautiful red sunrise. Red sky at morning……storms coming in.

What a sunrise! 2/12/2019

This morning: sunny til it clouds up. Very fast but it’s loosened up nicely. There is a track where Ian could get one in. BUT, with the first snow flake the new snow will slow the skiing down. So all in all this afternoon would be a great time to ski.

The weather people are now calling for 5 to 8 inches of snow late Tuesday afternoon, evening. And 5 to 8 inches of snow/sleet tonight. And another inch of snow Wednesday. This is pretty much the same weather snow pattern we had in the middle of January. Lots of snow, a sleet layer and more snow. It is not bad. It allows for better skiing sooner after the new snow. So stay tuned, really good skiing on it’s way!

Great new snow! Temperatures around 32º on Wednesday and Thursday. Warmer on Friday. And high 20’s on Saturday and Sunday. Good stretch of weather coming up.
