Not Quite Yet

Clsoed. 24º at 7am and snowing. The plan is to have some skiing on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

We had a lot going on at 6am this morning. Ian packing out the snow and Chuck plowing the parking lot.

Chuck measured 8.3 inches of snow. Not quite enough to get skiing today. It will pack out to a nice base, but we need today’s snow for skiing. More snow is still predicted.

Get your skis out, rock skis, it is still early in the season. Find your boots. Make sure everything works and plan on skiing Tuesday.

Early priced season passes are still an option. It does make a great gift. And we have new Skida/Wild Wings hats and neck warmers. (Picture tomorrow.)

Are You Ready For Some Snow? We Are!

Fixing the problematic culvert on the Loon!

Closed. 7º at 7am, a red sky sunrise, and we are expecting snow. Wild Wings is in the 10″ to 20″ range. We will open as quickly as we can get the snow packed out.

And look at this fix on the Loon by Ian, Bill and Dick! Ian is hoping this will be the fix for a few years. We also worked on the Peregrine yesterday; me on the weed eater, Dick on the loppers, and Ian using the pole saw. Chuck has been putting down “corduroy” in wet spots. The weather has been cold and the ground is frozen, we always hope the freeze will come before the snow. Getting ready is always a work in progress, but we feel ready for snow.

The forecast:

Look at all the snowflakes!

You can still buy your early season pass.

Something’s Happening Here

We had a great spring! A wonderful summer. And one of the most beautiful falls anyone remembers.

The weather providing great opportunity to get chores done. Ian cleared brush in the new field. Another 12 feet along the east edge of the field! Bigger loops in the field, classic and skating! He is trying to get the field less bumpy, so we can ski on less snow.

We need a new snow cat shed. The other shed wasn’t big enough! The old shed is down and the new shed goes up. That sentence makes the process sound easy.

Building the new shed.

The vegetable garden was great this year. The pumpkins were the best crop. And we are still eating brussel sprouts and kale.

18 good sized pumpkins, a record for us!

And the foliage. It wasn’t in a hurry to arrive. But, when the color started it lasted about 3 weeks. And around every corner the color was more spectacular.

A nice shot from up above.

And mowing ski trail. Which I love doing!!! I mow the Middle and Upper Blue Jay with a weed eater. Chuck does the Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse and Peregrine with the tractor and a flail mower. Dick works with a weed eater and mows the Loon, and Chuck and Dick work together to get the Chickadee mowed. We still have Waite’s Place Loop to get to.

Mowing ski trail on the Upper Blue Jay. Dick’s tree, marked to 4 feet.

If you made it this far down the post there are a few details we are working. The  season pass offer being one. Info to follow soon. And wood spitting is going on. All of our firewood for the barn and the house are stacked inside and ready to go for the winter.
