Still skiing…

Open, 12 º at 7 am, blue skies and sunny. The sun shine is a game changer it just makes me feel better. Forecast high 27º and sunny.

The skiing is fair to good, for almost everyone. It is a mix loose and frozen granular, mostly skiable surface. Ian is grooming some trails every morning. 16 km classic and 6 km skate. Turkey and Grouse groomed today. If you have any questions about a trail, ask.

16 km open. Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk, Peregrine and Chickadee. Please do not go on Chickadee unless you have a strong snow plow.

The photo above is Sophie. She and Simi are home on a break from World Cup Racing. It is a real treat to see them skiing. Keep your eyes open, it is fun to watch them ski. They are keeping their distance from people just like the rest of us, so just give them a wave.

Redundantly good skiing. (for most skiers)

Open, 13º at 7 am and cloudy. The forecast is 28º and partly cloudy. 10 km open for classic and 6 km for skate. The Chickadee is also open for very experienced skiers. (On the Chickadee use your old slow skis, not your new fast skis, and plan on having a really strong snowplow.)

The skiing is good. The coverage is adequate but not soft and fluffy. If you are an experience Nordic skier the consensuses is, the skiing is good. If you a beginner, most people have thought is was good, a few have thought is was tricky.

An “old guy”, which is what he calls himself, told me to quit talking like a lawyer, “the skiing is good.” And the next person in,  new to Nordic skiing told me it was hard for her, as she had injured her ACL two years ago, and, well, it was just hard and not fun.

Then we had first timers, a family of three and they had a blast and will be back and they loved it.

So you see, this is not soft fluffy easy to ski for everyone snow. The snow is very skiable for most people. It is really fun for almost everyone. And that means when I give the ski report I might sound a little bit mixed. If you are new to skiing and it isn’t right for you with the conditions we have at the moment, you can always switch to snow shoes.

Good hard pack skiing

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 16º at 7 am and partly cloudy. Forecast high 25º, partly cloudy.

The snow is hard pack, the skiing is great if you are an experienced skiers. If you are a beginner you will find it  the snow packed hard and a little fast.

10 km open for classic, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Turkey and Peregrine. 6 km skate, Turkey and Peregrine.

And the Chickadee. It is open. Ian and Andy shoveled like crazy. It is 5 km and will be a little bumpy. A very experienced skier skied the Chickadee and said it is good. Ruth Ann skied it and said it needs 3 inches of new snow. So know before you go, you need to be a good skier to have fun up there. I am glad it is open and don’t mind skiing it slow, just for the scenery. What I am saying is make a smart choice.

If you can ski early or late today, you can avoid the bigger crowds.

Please fill out the contact tracing form online before you get here, it is easier I promise!

Please stay home if you are not well. Please continue to wear your mask around the base area and keep your distance. Thanks!

Good skiing again today……

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 11º at 6:30 am. Forecast high 26º and sunny. The skiing is good. 10 km open for classic and 6 km open for skating. The classic and the skating have both been great.

I feel a little repetitive everyday saying the skiing is good, but………… sure beats the saying…… And the weather has also become quite repetitive. But this weather pattern also beats the alternative. However, we would love a few snow flakes.

Ian started working on the Chickadee yesterday. He and Andy are doing some shoveling this morning. He will have it open sometime today. Which will bring the total number of km for classic up to 16. Check on the status of Chickadee today before you head up there.

Do the contact tracing for online. And remember all the Covid safety guidelines.  Stay home if sick. Masks and distance from others. And thanks.
