It is coming!

Closed 25ºat 9am on Wednesday, December 15th.

This photo is from December 14th and is a fair representative of the base that is still on the ground.

We need snow and cold temperatures to get skiing. We started a project in the woods this week that should insure snow. I am trying. Today thru Friday is not good for snow. This Saturday the weather forecast is 90% chance of snow 3-5 inches. We really need 8 inches. Snow dance! Snow dance! Snow dance!

Last year on this date we were working on the Covid shed project. There was very little snow. But the temperatures were colder. We finished this shed December 16th. The snow started that night. By the morning of the 17th we had 22 inches, and by the evening of the 17th, 44 inches of snow. The forecast had been for 6 to 8 inches of snow.

Last year also, the 44 inches of snow almost all melted before the 24th. We closed for a few days, more snow fell and we were open for skiing again.

Keep doing you your snow dance.

December 13th, 2020

No skiing………yet.

Closed, 21º, and snowing lightly. The snow that is falling is not the kind of snow that will add up. This snow is not going to be the 4 to 6 inches of snow we need to get open and skiing.

The photo above is from December 7th. I was out on the Turkey picking up sticks. You can see in the photo the snow is really thin, it is crunchy and in places very slippery. So there is, in most places, still some base. The forecast for the next 10 days doesn’t look real encouraging. But we are ready, and maybe there will be a surprise storm. Do your snow dance, buy some ice skates, don’t buy a snow shovel. Whatever it takes.

The photo above also does not do Monday night’s wind justice. There are so many limbs and sticks down. Back out today to pick up sticks!

And this is from last year, but this is what it looks like to try and ski before there is enough snow. Thin. Grass isn’t too bad to ski on, it is the rocks that stop you short, and trash your skis.

New Logo!!! Thanks Daley Art!

So, did you notice? New logo! Updated and beautiful.

We have had help lately. Not only is Ian helping out and making skiing really good, Heather is keeping us running on the rental/ticket/merchandise end. She is the organizer and orderer of Skida hats with the Wild Wings logo. She would like a little more merchandise for you and for staff. But wanted to update the logo before she started ordering t-shirts, hats etc. She contacted an old friend, and Peru native, James Daley.

James grew up in Peru and is a talented, dedicated artist. His dad, Jim, parked cars with Angus (Chuck’s dad) in the 80’s. James skied here with his sister and spent his first 18 years in Peru, before moving on to art school. He was always talented and redesigned the Flood Brook School, (our local elementary school) logo while he was in middle school. After art school James came back to Vermont and Orvis hired him as a graphic designer. (Good move Orvis!)

The photo below is an illustration by James. I took a screenshot so you would be able to see just how talented this guy is! I really want you to check out his work. The link to his website is below.

He now lives with his wonderful family in Dorset. Still works for Orvis as a graphic designer and has a his own business, Daley Art Creative Agency. When Heather wanted to update our logo, he was the first person she thought of.

James did us proud. So when you see the new logo, remember this local kid, who is a talented artist and grew up to make a living doing what he loves. Check out his work on his website.

Closed, not enough snow fell.

Closed. 6.5 inches of new snow. This snow needs to sit, absorb some standing water and harden up.

This is/was a good base building event, but we need more snow in order to groom.

The snow stuck to the trees and it is beautiful out there. The roads were awful and if you didn’t have you snow tires on, you’ll try to make an appointment today.

So for now the trails are closed until we get more snow, please do not walk or ski on the trails.

If you want information on buying a season pass the link is here.
