A Dusting of New Snow! It Helps!

Open.  This picture is Ian grooming on 12/11/18.

20º and snowing at 7am. A dusting of new snow overnight and this morning. The temperature is expected to drop slowly all day. We might see the sun this afternoon.

Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Turkey and Peregrine are open. Ian went around and around yesterday pulling the Ginzu groomer. He said he was able to get many of the humps and bumps flattened out on the Woodcock, Snow Goose and Turkey.  With the new snow it will be pretty nice out there.

To get Middle and Upper Blue Jay and Chickadee open we need a decent snow storm.

This is a GPS map of the Peregrine. The Peregine is the light color. Middle Blue Jay in red and Chickadee in pink. As you can see the Peregrine takes advantage of all the terrain out back. It skis in the area of the Old Lower Blue Jay and the Goshawk.  It is a fun, great ski. There are more ups, downs and flats. You can ski it hard and fast and wear yourself out. Or you can puzt around and look at the animal tracks. There are so many tracks up there. Yesterday I saw something with a belly drag or a tail drag.  I am skiing it 5 months after hip replacement with no problem. And I move over and let better, faster skiers past me often. As you can see the trail goes back and forth. This trail can be very social, and everyone I see up there is smiling. So if you love the Woodcock and Snow Goose they are out there and you know what to expect. If you want to to go up on the Peregrine and have any questions, just come in and ask.

Regroomed This Morning

Open. 3º at 6am. Sunny and expected high 27º.

Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Turkey and Peregrine.

The skiing yesterday was hard and fast. So Ian is grooming this morning. Thank goodness we have enough snow to use the Ranger and Ginzu. He is in out of the cold with the heat on as he drives around loosening  the surface.  This will give us the kind of skiing that some people think is great, they push off and glide around. And some people will think it is too fast. Which are you? If speed and balance are your thing you will love it. A good double pole workout. If you like to go slow and not have to stay on top of your skis, it will be fast for you.

All of this makes it hard for me to say the skiing is…..and fill in the blank………. Ian thinks it is great. Chuck thinks it is fast. Carl and Alex said it was fast. Ian’s 30 kids from the Burr and Burton team thought is was good.

Also, remember it is December 11. The sun is the strongest between 11am and 1pm. And the sun also softens the snow.

Both pictures are from this morning (12/11/18)

Skiing Is So Good!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open. Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and  Peregrine.

22º at 7am, and cloudy. Expecting sun later today.

The skiing is good. It is really good. I’ve seen the forecast is it going to be this good for a few days. So, find an excuse to not be at work for a few hours and come out to ski.

I skied the Peregrine yesterday with the little elves,(grandchildren) to check on the holes, (homes) where we dropped our special treats. The carrots and apples were moved, gone or munched on. Lots of bird seed was eaten. But the kale was all still there, imagine that. They spied one little mouse hiding in a corner of his house and gave him extra bird seed.

The Peregrine, the new trail, skis beautifully! It is designed for skate or classic. It is fun and skis well with less snow. The result of lots of excavator work and being up on the hill so the water drains down. It winds it’s way all over up above and includes parts of the old Lower Blue Jay and Goshawk. It starts at the end of the old field by the wood piles and goes up the hill. It was confusing to me when I tried to map the new trail in my head using the old trail in my head as markers. If you can just go ski it and follow where it leads you will be good. There are some steep ups and downs, but Ian had made short cuts around if you want to do that. If you have any questions, come on in and ask. We are so excited about this trail and love to talk about it.

Here is a little video of the Peregrine.

And if you still need to buy your season pass here is the info. Just drop off or mail a check. The address is on the bottom of the flyer.
