Nice New Tracks

Some nice tracks went in this morning. 3/11/2019

Open, 27º and cloudy. 3 inches of new snow total, with a little wintry mix in there too. Ian is out grooming the low trails and Chickadee – about 18 km. Ian or I will update this report as we know more.  The tracks are beautiful!

The weather isn’t bluebird sky, but the skiing is good, really good. The high temperature today, 31º-32º, and cloudy. It is a great day to be outside. (Everyday is a great day to be outside, almost.)

Time to get ready for sugaring. Which means moving some stuff around. The plow to the old PistenBully is in the way. And the evaporator needs to be put back together. The sap holding tank needs to go up high again and the tubing hung. Etc. The circle just keeps going.

And Now New Snow

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Yep, yesterday was that nice. 3/9/2019

Open, 23º and snowing. 2 inches of snow so far this morning. The forecast is for snow all day, high around 29º, changing to a wintry mix this evening.  All trails are open, 22 km classic and 6 km skate. Great powdery skiing, we are out grooming, focusing on Woodcock/ Snow Goose and Chickadee. And, as of 8:30, no wind.

The sun was bright yesterday. Hurt your eyes, remember to put your sunglasses on, bright. Today you will want an outer layer that is water resistant. The skiing with this new snow on top will be really nice.

Dick on the “pump track”. 3/9/2019

We have a wide range of ages working the pump track, 6 to 78. Wow! This track is fun! And with the fun the balance work and skills worked on are amazing! Thanks Ian for building more fun into skiing!

This track was spotted on Friday.

Spotted on Friday, mid-day. This photo is from Saturday.

A nice fella spotted this track on Friday, the 8th, up on the Peregrine. This photo is from the 9th. The photo from the 8th was very fresh the claw marks were way sharper. He went back up there because I asked him for another photo with a mitten for size reference. So the sides of the track have softened a little. We are all guessing bear. When you look, think hind foot walking into the same track as the front foot.

Sun and Snow, Perfect Spring Ski!

And now in the field, a little something extra. 3/8/2019

Open, 12º and sunny! High today around 32º and sunny. A lovely day for a ski. This is spring skiing at its finest. 22 km of classic tracks, 6 km of skate. We have plenty of snow and great grooming! Get out your sunglasses, sun screen and Maxiglide. It is so nice out there!

Above are some bumps Ian built in the new field. They are in the middle you do not have to go on them, it is a choice for some of us. For the younger, fun crowd, the bumps are almost part of their DNA and they are very, very happy! They skied around and around and up and down. Between the Burr and Burton ski team and the BKL kids league. Those bumps were skied hundreds of times yesterday. And it wasn’t just the kids I saw quite a few taller people with long skis going up and down and around and around. It is fun.

Getting a little air. 3/8/2019

This also happened yesterday.

Not suppose to see this in your rear view mirror while on the ski trail. 3/8/2019

Ian pulled him out. He turned right when he thought he should, instead of following the directions from the nice GPS lady. Sometimes I don’t believe the nice lady on my GPS either. No harm, no foul. Ian pulled him out and fixed the trail. Loving the new machine!

Sun, Snow and 27º, Oh What a Day For a Ski!

Grooming the morning of 3/6/2019. Lots of snow in the woods.

Open, 7º at 7am and sunny. Forecast high 27º, and partly sunny. Really fabulous skiing, warmer and sunny. Doesn’t get much better. 22 km open for classic and 6 km open for skate. All trails open, except Loon. I am going to say it again: great, wonderful skiing.

We still have plenty of snow. The weather looks great today, Friday, and tomorrow,  Saturday for skiing. A little weather coming in for Sunday.

Yesterday the Kindergarten class from The Dorset School came for the afternoon to ski. Wow! I am impressed a great group of happy, fun kids. Nine kids and their helpers skied, ate a snack, skied some more changed and climbed on the bus to head back to school. They had fun. We had fun!
