Time for a short sleeve shirt. 3/13/2019

Closed today, Friday, the 15th. 34º and misting rain. You can smell spring rain in the air.

The snow cover is still great. We will groom Saturday morning and be open. The low tonight is 31º and the high Saturday is 34º with snow showers possible. Corn snow, spring skiing.

Enjoy your day today. I am going to clean up. And Ian and Chuck will continue to get ready to sugar. Tapping out and putting the sugarhouse back together.

Spring Skiing and Tapping Out

Open, 31º and cloudy. Overcast today with the high temperature around 45º. Spring skiing is here, faster in the morning and slower when the temperature warms up. Faster again at end of day. 22 km classic and 6 km skate.

The skiing is really good again today. The weather doesn’t sound great for Friday, we may be closed, please check before driving out.

Wednesday was a great day! Lots of fun, lots of laughing. Lots of sun. Wednesday made day 92 days of being open for skiing. Today, 93. Add 10 days of skiing for season pass holders before the official count started and that is a lot of skiing. And we were closed a day here or there for rain, wind, and/or shoveling snow or picking up sticks. The first day skiing was November 12th, and here we are, just a few long months later, 103 days of skiing, pretty darn respectable.

And this is how we tell spring is finally here,

Sugaring time! Our buckets are up, tapping the tubing today

Great Day For An Old Ski

Our fiend Bill on his 1976 mohair skis

Great day for an old ski! 3/12/2019

Open, 12º and sunny at 7am. Expected high 36º and sunny. 22 km open and groomed with a classic track. 6 km groomed for skate. Low trails re-groomed with the PistenBully. Chickadee (but not Waites Loop or the Heart Loop) groomed with the little machine. Upper trails are still great powdery snow, really fabulous skiing. Yes, you need Maxiglide.

This is our friend Bill he spent yesterday doing laps up above. Love the shield, they are great for days when it is snowing. I really do need one. I had a Con Shield years ago that Velcroed to my hat. This upgrade with the strap looks good. And the skis. This pair of skis, called “hairies” back in the day, are the skis Bill used in the 1976 Olympics and Bill with this pair of skis skied the fastest relay time of the day. And, they both still have it. I would say the skis are “sendy”, but I would have to ask someone younger than me if I used the term correctly. I did Google “sendy” and it popped up, “the act of extreme going for it-ness”.  So yes, the ski and the skier are considered “sendy”.

Spring skiing reminder. Warm temperature during the day, slower skiing. In the afternoon when the sun goes down and the temperature drops, the skiing can and does get really fast. If in doubt ask us.

Another Day, Mid-Winter, Perfect Conditions

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 24º at 7am, and 1 fluffy, beautiful inch of snow. Expected high around 30º, snow flurries this morning, a little sun this afternoon. The skiing is great! Really, really good. 22 km of classic tracks,  6 km of skate. The Chickadee would be a great ski choice again today. Yesterday Ian groomed all trails. Who will get the first tracks in this light, fluffy inch of powder?  Bring the Maxiglide, the March sun is warm and it is nice to have it if you need it.

The skiing is great. And the playing is great. Ian has built this great pump course and the conditions yesterday and today are perfect. Great place to practice quick movements and balance. Smiling and laughing are also highly recommended.
