Add Chickadee (almost all of it) to list of open trails.

Open, 31º at 6:30 am. Forecast high today 34º and continued clouds.

17 km open. Woodcock, Turkey, Snow Goose, Grouse, Peregrine, and most of Chickadee.

Good, quick, beautiful skiing. The track is solid and great skiing. The lane beside is solid good skating. All in all a great day.

Ian worked on the Chickadee all day yesterday. Two cold nights, a little time to let the water sink in and a whole lot of shoveling. The Chickadee is open except for the loop just before the Loon. Andy skied it last night and said, “it is 98% really good with a few spots a little skinny.” A few photos from Ian on the Chickadee. If anyone want a shoveling chore today, check in with Ian, we have a shovel you can use.

Planning skiing for the weekend. Saturday looks like good weather and good skiing. Sunday is good weather, good skiing with a great big BUT, we have a kids race Sunday morning. The racing starts at 10. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 11:45. Plan on an afternoon ski for Sunday.

Another Pretty Good Day

Open, 22º at 6:30 am. Forecast high today 26º and continued clouds. 10 km open. Woodcock, Turkey, Snow Goose, Grouse, and Peregrine. Skiing is faster now that the snow has frozen back up. The fun kind of fast!

The Holey Tree – thank you to our mystery signmaker!

Ian is touching up the lower trails with the snowmobile. We are grooming conservatively to preserve the snow; it is a little thin in spots. We have shoveled the worst areas and will continue shoveling as needed.

We will start work on Chickadee today – the wet areas have mostly drained and frozen, so we can fill them back in with snow. We hope to have Chickadee open again by Friday.

Back to 10 km, good, skiing. Skiers are calling it beautiful.

Open, 22º at 6:30 am. Forecast high today 26º and continued clouds. We did have a dusting of snow overnight. The trees still have snow in them. It is pretty out there.

10 km open. Woodcock, Turkey, Snow Goose, Grouse, and Peregrine. Skiing is faster now that the snow has frozen back up. The fun kind of fast. The photo below on the left is on the Woodcock. The photo on the right is Ian and machines smoothing out the left lane. The track is in and is solid. Ian is smoothing out the wide skate lane as I type.

Ian was able to get the Snow Cat around the Peregrine this morning, the cold weather finally dried out and froze up the snow. By 6:00 am when I got up, he was already done with the Peregrine. Yesterday the snow was still so wet the snow cat wouldn’t go up the hills on the Peregrine.

Ian also took a trip around the Chickadee, he took a chainsaw, he didn’t take a wet suit. Below is the photo. It needs to dry out a little and freeze up a lot and then will need a lot of shoveling…………. and we can’t shovel until it freezes up. The temperatures have gone down. Ian has worked the snow enough it is drying out down on the low trails. But as for the Chickadee and Upper and Middle Blue Jay, it will be a while.

A beautiful snowy morning. 4.5 inches of new snow.

Open, 26º at 6:30 am. 4.5 inches of new snow.

Starting the morning with the low 7 km open, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk groomed. The skiing is going be to good. (Peregrine has to be closed for today. Ian is driving on it trying to get it to dry out, freeze up and harden up. So it is pretty rough up there.)

One of the quiet days in the woods. You’ll be skiing through a snow globe. The branches are holding the snow and if the wind blows at all you’ll wish you had your hood on.

The photo below is yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. It didn’t really snow hard until after midnight.

The weather the rest of the week looks like good skiing, and not a lot of changes. Temperatures not getting too high or too low. Sort of a mid-winter ski week. If you are making last minute plans, this might be a good week to get out to ski.
