Using the new groomer. 2/26/2019

Open,  -6º at 7 am. Sunny this morning, clouding up and snowing with a high of 22º. We are still cleaning up after the record breading winds of Sunday night/Monday. Branches and sticks everywhere. As of 7 am Wednesday morning, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk and Peregrine are open and groomed. Skate lanes on Turkey and Peregrine, tracks in on all groomed trails. We still have to pick up sticks on the Chickadee.

Ask if you have any questions about any trails. Bill picked up the sticks on the Upper and Middle Blue Jay yesterday, about a 4 hour job. I got the sticks on the Snow Goose, took 2 hours. Ian did the Turkey, 1.5 hours. Chuck picked up the Woodcock, 1.5 hours. And the some local elementary school kids and their fearless leader picked up the Grouse. After the stick picking then Ian went around with the groomer. Slow going. But this is a perfect after storm mess of frozen granular snow and new snow to use the new groomer/tiller.

Back To Skiing Now That The Wind Is Past

Open, 7º. We did get a couple inches of snow. The sun is out today and the forecast is 13º.  We will get trails open throughout the day. Starting with Turkey and Peregrine. Then onto Woodcock and Snow Goose. We got absolutely hammered with high winds yesterday and last night, we need to clear branches and sticks before we can groom. Free skiing if you bring a rake (and use it!)

The skiing will be good. There is snow under the crust and snow on top of the crust. Ian will be grooming it all up through out the day and will have a nice mix of powdery, frozen granular. Makes for good skiing. If you are using waxable skis, covered klister is the way to go.

Wow, the wind was amazing. Blew and gusted hard for about 20 hours. The recorded high on Mount Washington yesterday was 171 mph. Lots of places had lots of damage. We just have the normal stick/branch down thing going on.

This is an ermine. 2/25/2019

We, as most people this year, are over run with squirrels. We have seen as many as 5 at a time under the bird feeder. They live under our porch and in the garage. They are chewing pests! This little fella, the ermine, which is white in the winter, and a brown weasel in the summer, same animal, loves squirrels, so I am liking him lots!

Closed For Today, A Little Breezy Out There!

Best race face ever. 2/24/2019

Closed for today. It is a little windy out there! The forecast, windy today and tonight gusts 40 to 50 mph. Less wind tomorrow and 12º, we will be open again on Tuesday. We still have great coverage and plenty of snow. Ian will dig into his groomer fleet and the skiing will be good again.

Today we are going to catch up and be ready to go again tomorrow. Chuck is on dump duty. Ian is practicing and learning the new PistonBully. Chuck needs to get gas for the smaller machines, go to the dump and go to the bank. I might put my feet up and eat bon-bons.

The Weather Is Not Spectacular

A little grooming going on.

Open, 26 º at 7am and freezing rain, sleet falling from the sky. Prediction, wintry mix continuing this morning changing to rain this afternoon as the temperatures warm up.

We have a little kid race here this morning. Ian groomed the Turkey and the Grouse for the race. All other trails open and fast until the temperature warms up. 22 km classic and 3.3 km skate.

The kids are fun to watch. Get out your rain coat and your cowbell and come cheer the kids on. The Lollypoppers start at 10am and do a lap around the new field. Each race the kids get a little older and the races get a little longer.

Lining up at a race here from 2017.
