Open, 25º at 7 am. 1″ of new snow this morning. Forecast, high temperature 35º, and snow to mixed precipitation, the forecast says 2 to 4 inches more of new snow. We are skiing on an inch of new snow in really nice tracks. Yesterdays pick of the day, Chickadee/Loon.

20 km open, 6 km of that also has a skate lane. No Middle Blue Jay yet, still some shoveling to do.

Another really, really nice day for a ski. Yesterday I wrote that the Chickadee was fabulous. Ian told me it was fun, but not fabulous and he edited it on here. Guess what a whole bunch of you all skied the Chickadee, Loon and Upper Blue Jay and came down and said, “Fabulous”, “Wonderful”, “Great Skiing”, “So Nice” and “Fun”!

Today with the new snow the skiing will be a little bit slower, you will need Maxiglide because of the new snow and the around 32º temperature. But it is great skiing and beautiful out there!

And now some more pictures from the weekend.

The photo above and below are thanks to Mary, and from the moonlight ski/potluck they hosted here on Saturday night.

Many littles on Sunday. A great day for all! Photo credits below Anna. Thanks for the help Mary and Anna with the photos!

And Now For Another Beautiful Ski Day

Open, 0º at 6 am, clear skies. Forecast high 30º, clouding up. Skiing is really nice. 20 km open. 20 km classic and 6 km skate. The skate lanes hardened up nicely. Classic and skate are both great. The Chickadee, Loon and Upper Blue Jay will be fun today!

After the 48 hour storm we ended up with great skiing. But weather like that takes a lot of work to get it all back together. Special thanks to all the helpers. Jonathan, grooming and sticks. Andy, chainsaw and sticks. Alex and kids, sticks. And Dick major pick up on the sticks.

Out on the Woodcock, picking up sticks.

Early in the morning, Ian at work. Photo credits are mostly Jonathan.

A little chain saw work, then clean up. Pick up and toss. Pick up and toss.

Skiing with your mom, best day ever!

And saving the best for last…..Dick cleaned up on the Chickadee. He also brought in breakfast sandwiches for the grooming crew. But, really, this is Dick after 5 hours on the Chickadee. Holy cow! What a Day!!!

Net Gain For Snow, 12 Inches At The Stake

Grooming about 8:30 morning. Wow, it looks nice!

Open, 9º and clear skies at 7 am. Forecast high today 17º and sunny. And after some chainsaw work and many stops to pick up branches……Ian is in the big groomer on the Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and Peregrine. Skating will be better tomorrow.

All trails open, except the Middle Blue Jay. The plan is to work on Middle Blue Jay after all the other work is done. The Chickadee and Upper Blue Jay are packed, but no track.

The break down is: 20 km open, 20 km classic, 12 km with tracks, 6 km skate. The skate lane will be soft.

Skiing will be good to fine! And snowshoeing will be really nice. And the weather and scenery amazing.

Storm totals: Thursday by mid-day we had about 5 inches of snow. In the middle of Thursday afternoon it switched to freezing rain. We had about 24 hours of freezing rain. This morning there was .86 inches of water from the freezing rain. We switched back to snow at 2 pm on Friday and had 1.9 inches of snow by Friday evening when it quit snowing. All in all we had a net gain of snow. There is now 12 inches of snow at the stake in the backyard.

Everything Is Coated With Ice

Closed. The temperature this morning is 29º and it is raining and freezing onto everything. It is looking quite shiny out there. The forecast is for the freezing rain to turn back to snow. The forecast is still saying 3-5 inches of snow this afternoon.

Chuck is calling this a significant icing event. The temperatures are suppose to start dropping during the afternoon. The precipitation is suppose to switch to snow and the wind in going to blow.

We will end up with a net gain for snow and total base. The timing will make the weekend a lot of work for Ian. I know he will groom on Saturday morning, starting early and will get as much open as he can. All dependent on when the precip changes to snow and how much snow falls.

Photo credit below: Ian Black. The gang skiing the Chickadee/Upper Blue Jay on Thursday. The skiing started out ok/good. Ended up difficult as the significant icing started while they were up on top. The return back to the barn was tough.
