Open, 19º at 6:30 am and sunny. Forecast high 30º and partly sunny.

Ian just went by with the Snow Cat and the snow is lovely. The skiing will be really, really good.

Ian groomed the Chickadee last night. And all the low trails this morning. The Middle and Upper Blue Jay were groomed a couple days ago and will be a little quicker. If you have questions, please ask.

Tomorrow will be a spring ski day around 40º. Mid-day slow and getting quick once the sun goes down.

What a great weekend!

We Love Good Skiing On Winter Days

Photo taken 1/4/2019. Skiing is the same today, minus the blue sky.

Open, 0º at 6:30 am and clear skies. Forecast high 23º and sunny.

The skiing is good. Ian has been out in the snow cat again today. All trails open, 25 km classic and 6 km skate.

Skiing for the next few days is looking good. With Saturday and Sunday being a little bit warmer. We are headed toward spring. Warmer days and colder nights means you need to pay attention. When it is warmer and the snow softens, it can happen just from the sun hitting the snow, the skiing is slower and more forgiving. Then the sun goes down and the snow hardens back up and becomes quicker or just fast.

Warm soft snow = slower.  Cold hard snow = can be faster.  When this happen the slowest skiing is from 11:30 ish to 2:30 ish. If you aren’t sure ask.

What A Great Winter Day!

Open, 7º at 6:30 am. High today, 20º, sunny this am and partly sunny this afternoon. A great winter day. Good hard pack skiing. All trails open, 25 km classic and 6 km skate.

The photo above is from yesterday, mid-morning. Ian out looking for first tracks.

The skiing is fast and yet not fast. There is some granular snow and some powder all mixed together.

I skied this morning, already, and it was quite lovely. It is hard pack, skating will be good. The tracks are in, your skis will stay in the tracks. If you are in doubt about where you want to ski come in and ask us.

And when Ian was grooming last night about 7:30 pm he saw an animal on the Woodcock that he described as, “a big black weaselish animal –  kind of clumsy looking.” We are all thinking fisher cat/porcupine. Anybody skiing woodcock watch for the tracks and let me know what you think.

6.3 Inches Of New Snow. Great Skiing!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 27º at 6 am. New snow, 6.3 inches. 19 inches of snow at the stake. Forecast high 28º, mostly sunny and breezy. All trails open and groomed. 25 km classic and 6 km skate. All trails really nice! Once you get into the woods, you will be out of the wind.

Ian is in the snow cat, and Jonathan is on the snowmobile. They will go around, pack it down and put in a track in the places where tracks should be. Someone asked the other day why the tracks disappeared some times. It is because the groomers are anticipating your need to either snow plow down a hill or herringbone up a hill. The tracks make classic skiing easier by keeping your skis going straight as you glide along.
