Open and Skiing, 10 km To Start The Day

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open today. 32º to start the morning and partly cloudy.

The snow is frozen granular and grooming out nicely. We will start out with Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Peregrine and Grouse groomed, 10 km. We still have good coverage. But definitely spring skiing. Faster in the morning and late afternoon. Slower in the middle of the day. And all temperature dependent.

The high temperature today is forecast to be 37º. The sun is shining right now. And there is a 30-40% chance of a snow flurry, and in the open the wind is blowing.

So, spring skiing. Experienced skiers will love the quick skiing. If you are looking for slower skiing, plan on the middle of the day, 11:30 to 2:30. If you have any questions, ask. If we can open more terrain we will, just ask. Ian is thinking the longer harder trails will be skiable in the middle of the day. And he has been being right.

Below is a video clip taken of the Caldwell Classic 50km. Great fun!

Spring Skiing

Open today. 38º at 6:30 am, mostly cloudy. Forecast high is 50º, cloudy with occasional rain this afternoon. All trails open. Spring skiing, variable conditions. Slow/fast/and in between. Mostly the skiing will be good.

We all had a great day on Sunday. We hosted the 50 km Caldwell Classic. Think of it as a fast group tour vs a race. The fast group going fast! And yet stopping to wait for others and eat and drink lots of water and re-wax the skis. Special thanks to Sverre, who re-waxed skis after the first lap, 14 km. Made the next 36 km way more pleasant. Not everyone skied the 50 km, 3 out of 12, but everyone had fun. Last year there were only 2 people total. Next year? The course was: Chickadee, Loon, Middle Blue Jay and Upper Blue Jay then down to the barn times 3. Yes, you read that right, three laps. Then, over to the Woodcock, down to the Snow Goose, three times around the Snow Goose and then back in on the Woodcock. And about 50 km.

Another Day Of Really Good Skiing

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open today. At 7 am, 20º and cloudy. High of 45º, cloudy then some sun. The skiing is really good.  All trails are open and groomed. The trails are in great shape. Dusting of new snow. Good skiing all day, best this morning.

The skiing was amazing yesterday. One of those days where you are quite sure this is heaven. One of those ski until you make your legs quake day. One of those days where it is so nice out you have to try to ski well so you can stare at the sky at the same time you are trying to keep skiing. Ahhhhh, one of those days.

Today…..skiing is still amazing! The temperature will be warmer, 20º warmer. The skiing will get slow when the temperature warms up above 33º. There may be a time in around 31º to 34º where Maxiglide is needed. The skiing will be more wintery early this morning.

Another photo from the fun yesterday. People were smiling and skiing. The BEST! Thanks for getting the picture Sophie!

Another Great Day Of Skiing

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open today. At 7 am the temperature is 8º and the sun in shining. The forecast temperature is 25º with mostly sunny skies.

The skiing is really good.  All trails are open and have been groomed today with at least one of the groomers in the fleet. Ian and Jonathan have been out since early this morning. (They saw the sun rise!) The trails are in great shape. We had another flurry of snow come through last night and skiing was really good yesterday and is better today. The snow is a little quick.

The last few snow/sleet/rain storms have been very elevation dependent. The stake in our backyard has 13 inches of snow. Out on the Snow Goose the stake measured 17 inches. The Styles Junction stake has 22 inches. And the tree at the high point on the Upper Blue Jay has 24 inches of snow.
