Open, 23º and cloudy a dusting of snow overnight. Forecast high 25º, morning clouds and afternoon sun. 10 km open and groomed, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk and Peregrine.

The upper trails for experts only, they have not been groomed. Please ask at the shop before you head up.

The snow has been grooming out nicely, loose granular snow with a little fresh snow mixed in. It is quite pleasant to ski on. This is surface on the lower, groomed trails. So easy to snow plow or herringbone on.

We are starting to get everything ready to sugar. Sugarhouse dug out. Bucket on the tractor, and the sap hauling trailer dug out. The box that holds the tubing, dug out. Next, hang the tubing. Tap the tubing. Get the sugarhouse put back together. And put out some buckets. Maple syrup here we come!

Skiing is loose granular with a dusting of new snow overnight.

Open, 21º at 7 am and sun and clouds. A dusting of new snow overnight. Forecast high today 35º and a chance of another snow shower.

10 km of skiing today on a loose granular base with an overnight dusting of fresh snow mixed in. Open, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk and Peregrine. Maybe, Chickadee, Loon, Upper and Middle Blue Jay, if the temperature gets warm enough to soften the snow and if you think it would be fun to ski. Fun being the operative word.

Th photo below is the Ginzu groomer Ian is using to scratch up the snow and gather up the sticks. It is always nice to be able to pick up sticks first and the use the PistenBully (above) and tiller without all the sticks!

The photo below shows few things. The snow banks are tall and solid. Life is good when you can climb a tree. With these two we are lucky they took their skis off to play in this tree. And red coats make for good photos.

Cold, good loose granular skiing.

Open, 4º at 9 am, sunny and windy. Forecast high 20º and sunny wind dying down this afternoon. Limited skiing today on a loose granular base. Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose to start. Ian will be driving around and he will be working to get to Peregrine and Grouse. To ski on Chickadee, Loon, Upper and Middle Blue Jay we will need snow.

I skied Turkey, the skiing is good, very manageable, I could snow plow and herringbone, although it was not fast enough to need to do either.

This is how the snow is grooming out. It really is nice. We are so fortunate to have Ian to drive this really nice grooming machine. In the top photo you can see the snow tilling up under the power tiller on the back, before the track setters.

Ian raked the trails with the Ginzu groomer. But the wind did blow all night, there is debris down, pine cones, twigs, etc.

Skiing, loose granular, faster than powder.

Open, 37º and misting at 7:30 am. All trails are open.

That being said with this loose granular base start with an easy trail, that may be where you want to ski today. The loose granular base is faster than powder but very skiable. I did have to make some adjustments while skiing. I was in and out of the track quite a few times. The track was more slippery in some spots. But I stepped out of the track onto the looser middle section and it skied very nicely.

Chuck’s mom always said this kind of snow made green trails blue and blue trails black. Choose wisely.

Tonight the temperature is going to dip down to 2º or 3º. The wind is suppose to blow and the snow on the ground will freeze up. Ian will be out tomorrow with the big PistenBully snow cat groomer. This groomer has a power tiller on it just to deal with hard frozen snow. I will let you in the morning how it is going.

This is a photo of Audrey skiing on the Woodcock on February 23rd. We have had amazing skiing! The skiing today is much faster than it was that day.
