2.7 inches of a sleet/snow mix. Good base, hoping for more snow

Closed. 28º at 7am. Overnight, 2.7 inches of a sleet/snow mix. It is solid and is just what we needed for good base. Not enough yet, but it is a great start.

Snow is still in the forecast for most of today. We are still hopeful to have something tomorrow for skiing. We will let you all know ASAP.

Getting ready for snow to fall….

Closed. 27º at 7:30 on Thursday morning. Waiting for snow to fall. The forecast is for 4 to 7 inches of snow, with some ice and sleet mixed in. We will take what we can get and make the best of it. We will open as soon as we can. Best guess: Saturday morning.

In the meantime, Ian had a few very low spots to fill with snow. So he scooped up the snowbanks and filled the ski-boose.

Scooping

Dumping

Most of this snow made it onto the trail.

Placing it on the trail

Hooking together ribbons of snow through the woods. Still a lot of thin/bare spots, but some of the worst areas are better.

Still waiting for snow to fall from the sky; hopefully we get some tonight!!

It’s a lot thin out there.

Closed, still waiting for the return of winter.

We have been making the news, for all the wrong reasons. I’ll post a picture of the Washington Post quotes at the end.

We haven’t lost all our snow, but the cover is thin. The photo that made the paper is Ian on the start of the Woodcock.

I have been asked to predict the future and give some hope to this weekend. As of this morning I am not hopeful. The coming storm is predicted to go up the St. Lawrence valley. Storms that go west of New England bring warm weather and moisture up from the south. Not a good scenario.

If we were “wishcasting” we would say it might come this way and bring us snow?! But in reality, with the forecast as of today, Tuesday morning, the forecast is; starting as snow, quickly changing to rain, raining for about 12 hours, switching back to snow.

If some how we get and keep enough snow, we will open. But, I am not going to hold my breath.

The photo below is from January 9, 2023. Two inches of snow on the logs, is the two inches of snow from January 6 and 7th. Looking off in the distance it looks skiable. Looking down by the logs is really what the trail coverage looks like.

The Bennington Banner story generated a call from a reporter at the Washington Post. Not many reporters call when we have lots of snow and the skiing is fantastic. I would rather have the snow and good skiing.

Closed, waiting for the return of winter.

Closed. 41º at 7:30 am. Overcast skies, rain off and on during the day.

We are closed until the temperature drops and the snow flies! We skied the snow we had and made the best of it. We had some really good skiing and some ok skiing. We skied 12 days in December.

So, now we wait. Cold and snow. That is what we need, cold and snow.
