Another Great Day For A Ski

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, -2º at 6am, clear and moonlit. Great skiing. 25 km classic, the skate lane is still soft in places, which makes the skating more work. Dress warm, the temperature is warmer than yesterday, but still cold enough to use your mittens, and hood, layers on your legs and body. Remember your neck warmer.

Walking out the door to this! 1/22/2019

The skiing is packed powder. “The Lower Trails”, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Turkey, Goshawk, and Peregrine are packed with a track. “The Upper Trails”, Chickadee, Loon and Middle and Upper Blue Jay are packed but not tracked. A relatively easy backcountry ski.

The weather will  warm up with some precipitation for Wednesday and Thursday, and then another cool down. Skiing today is great. For conditions on Wednesday and Thursday check back.  Should be good skiing again by the weekend.

And this is why I get up so early…..time to start the fire.

Snow, Cold, and Skiing

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, -10º at 7am. Partly cloudy. Snow total for the storm 13 inches. Expected high today -4º. Wear your warm clothes. Good powder skiing. Ian is getting a track in the Peregrine, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse, and Goshawk. The Chickadee and Loon, Middle and Upper Blue Jay were packed but not tracked, they are and will be a back country ski experience.

These two well dressed snowshoers came with a party of nine. Six snowshoers, and 3 skiers, all warm, happy outdoor enthusiasts. Over 100 people came out in the snow to play yesterday. The skiing was soft and gentle, slow and quiet. The skiing today will still be slow. But while you are out, notice, your skis will squeak in the cold snow.

And the snowskier (snowman) turned into a troll. For a couple years I have told the 4 to 6 year old grandkids we have trolls living under the bridges on the trails. To get over the bridge you must ski very slow and quiet, do not wake the troll, or it will grab your ski poles. They are now old enough to tell me the trolls are actually nice trolls and they really won’t get you. But, this troll, seeking higher ground moved up by the barn.

So Far….11 Inches Of Snow!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 11º and 11 inches of snow. And snowing. And suppose to snow until about 4pm. Hoping at that point for clearing skies so we can see the full moon lunar eclipse.

Waite’s Place Loop, 1/18/2019

Ian is on a machine, going round and round. The trails have been packed, and snow is falling on top of the packed trail. The skiing will be soft, and quiet. Beautiful!

We have been skiing on hard pack tracks and skate lanes. Now you have the opportunity to ski a back country ski experience without the work.

For today, use your touring skis, or wider ski. Come out and enjoy the beauty of the snow. Classic skiing on 25 km. NO skate lanes available until Wednesday or Thursday.

The temperature will be dropping and there could be wind.

Dry Clothes. When you get here. After you take a break. And before you drive home.

Hood, Hat, Mittens, Hand Warmers, Toe Warmers, Layers, Wind Proof.

30.2 inches of snow so far in January. 8.4 inches of snow in December and 40 inches of snow in November.

Really Great Skiing!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 14º and great skiing. On a holiday weekend. WOW!

This much snow on the Snow Goose bridge before the storm. 1/19/2019

We  have great skiing. All trails are open. The expected high for Saturday and Sunday is 15º.  Come on out and enjoy the day.  Ian re-groomed the Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse, Goshawk and Peregrine last night. The Chickadee, Loon, Waite’s Place Loop on Wednesday night. And the Middle and Upper Blue Jay Tuesday. Everything is great hard pack skiing. Not too fast, and not too slow.

Two up and coming Junior skiers and their mom, great group leader.

A little info on the Saturday night/Sunday storm. We are in the 18-24 inch zone. We will be open 9-4:30 as usual. We will be grooming during the storm. The trails will be packed, but soft. You will be skiing in soft, quiet, beautiful snow. The driving will be the biggest issue, please be safe.
