Open, 19º at 7am and cloudy. The forecast is for 35º and overcast. The skiing is great!

Oh those tracks! Gotta ski! 2/2/2019

Everything is open, but the Loon. The Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, the Grouse, Goshawk, and Peregrine, and the Chickadee/Waite’s Place Loop and the Upper and Middle Blue Jay.

The skiing is wonderful! Fabulous and great!

The Caldwell Classic 50 km happened yesterday. The start of something big. 2/2/2019

Isabel and Andy skied their own Wild Wings 50 km classic yesterday. They couldn’t make it to Craftsbury, they stayed here to coach a high school race on Friday night. So, the next best thing is to create your own. And now we have the Caldwell Classic 50 km. Four trips around the Chickadee, Middle Blue Jay and Upper Blue Jay. Down to the bottom after each of that 11 km loop, some food, and the final lap, just Chickadee, for a grand total of 50 km. The snow was not fast, so there was a lot of effort involved,

This is what 50 km done looks like. Pretty good! 2/2/2019

And look at that t-shirt!

Oh, What a Day!!!!

Another beautiful sunrise! 2/2/2019

Open, -1º at 7am, and sunny. Forecast high 24º. The skiing is amazing. 10 inches of new snow this week, all packed out and ready to ski. Really, really great skiing!

The Chickadee will be beautiful today. Loon is still closed, a flooded spot. Waite’s Place Loop is better than ever! Upper and Middle Blue Jay are really nice. On the Woodcock and Snow Goose the skiing is great, watch the brook for the ice. The ice has been putting on a show. Turkey and Peregrine are the two trails groomed for skating. Peregrine is a fun, fun loop, if you aren’t crazy about some of the downhills, watch, Ian has put in shortcuts. Look for more difficult or easier signs. And he also put in some short cuts if you need to head back down. Get out your gear and enjoy the fabulous skiing.

Many, many happy skiers yesterday.

Oh, those happy, happy kids. Up and down the hill, over and over.

More Great Skiing

Open, -4º at 7am and clear skies. Expected high today 12º, and mostly sunny. 24 km classic skiing and 4.5 km skate. Really nice skiing! Great snow and warmer temperatures.

Plenty warm while skiing. 1/31/2019

Yesterday we had a few hardy souls skiing. They stayed warm, skiing around the Chickadee seems to warm people right up.

Ian was out yesterday morning, 7am to 1pm. And again last night, riding round and round on Peregrine trying to get the snow to firm up. Come out and enjoy, beautiful weather wonderful snow!

A Cold, Fabulous Day For A Ski!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

From our friend George Forbes. 1/31/2019

Open, -9º at 7am, partly cloudy. Expected high 5º. The skiing is great. Ian groomed everything yesterday, and is out grooming everything again today. (Exception, no Loon.)  New favorite this year, Waite’s Place Loop. The picture below is on Chickadee. There were a few new Chickadee skiers yesterday, their lucky day. And today, another great Chickadee day! Or Snow Goose or Grouse. Or Peregrine.

Everything about yesterday was fabulous. Blue sky and fresh snow. Ian used the new snow machine and pulled the groomer around the upper trails. Old school narrow with one track. Snow in the trees and blue sky. Wow! Most of the day was blue sky. Then a few clouds started creeping in. Soon the sky was cloudy and the flakes starting floating down. The little snow squall became quite serious and everyone was covered in snow.

And then, snow, dumping. 1/30/2019

About 2 inches of snow fell in this little snow squall. And this also happened out there.

Why I wear a hat! 1/30/2019

The squall brought in the cold air. So, get out your long underwear. Cross country skiing does create body heat. But dressing smart and well allows skiing to be fun. Wear layers of wool, poly and/or fleece. Windproof is nice. Mittens, not gloves. A hat and an option of a hood. Neck warmers are wonderful! And if you need one more way to be warm add the hand warmers.
