And I got to ski here first today. 3/1/2019

Open, 24º at 7am and sunny, 2 inches of snow overnight. Forecast, 31º, clouding up and starting to snow tonight. The skiing is fabulous. Really, really good. 22 km classic tracks and 6 km skating. You will need Maxiglide on waxless skis. The trip around the Chickadee and Upper Blue Jay will be spectacular! Low trails all re-groomed with the PistenBully and wonderful.

Today is the 82nd day of officially being open. We were skiing 10 days before that for season pass folks. We started skiing November 12th. We haven’t been open everyday all winter. Those of us who have wintered in Southern Vermont know about a few rain/sleet/freezing rain days that were thrown into this winter. There have been some tough days this winter, yet this winter has given us lots, many, many days of great skiing.

We are now at 110 inches of snow for the winter. And two to three feet of that snow is still on the ground and is giving us great skiing today and, after looking at the weather forecast, great spring skiing for the next couple of weeks. Plan a spring ski!

Spring skiing and gathering some sap and making some syrup. What a great time of year!

Another Great Day For A Ski

Time for a ski! 3/1/2019

Open, 20º and cloudy. Forecast, mostly cloudy, afternoon snow showers, 29º. Great skiing! All trails open. (Except Loon.) 22 km classic, 6 km skate. Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse, Goshawk, Peregrine, and Chickadee all re-groomed this morning. Ian skied Middle and Upper Blue Jay yesterday and they are fun, nice skis with 3 inches of powder on top, he liked it. And then he had a request to leave them un-groomed.

This is a great day to get out skiing. The snow is great, the temperature is good. Great day for beginners. The snow is softer, and easier to ski on. So if someone in your life has been wanting to get out and try skiing, this is a good day!

Cliff has been experimenting with different GPS apps. It is a fun way to track your skiing. Check this out.

March Skiing, Wow!

Skiing on the Middle Blue Jay yesterday. Someone else had first tracks. 2/28/2019

Open, 8º, and sunny. Forecast is for clouds today and warming up to about 30º. Yes, you will need Maxiglide. Great, really great skiing today. Low trails all packed and tracked. 22 km classic skiing and 4 km skate. Chickadee and Middle and Upper Blue Jay look like the tracks above. There are 3 tracks on the lower part of the Peregrine for the morning. Skiing is really good and it’s a nice day to be outside.

Snow total for February was 19 inches. November was 40 inches, December was 8 inches, January was 42 inches. Quick someone do the math! 108 inches of snow so far this season. 2000 was a high snow year and that year we had 170 inches of snow. And this year if all the rain had been snow……..

At the stake in the backyard the snow measures 29 inches. There is more snow on the higher, upper trails. We have plenty of snow and the skiing is good. And that makes for a good day.

Why I get up early. 3/1/2019

The sunrise this morning lasted about 5 minutes. What a great 5 minutes.

Great Day For A Ski

Early morning grooming.

Open, 7º at 6 am and 4 inches of new snow. Forecast, snow continuing this morning, high around 20º. It is fluffy, light beautiful snow. Grooming the low trails. The skating lane on the Turkey, Peregrine, Grouse and Goshawk will be fun, firm under and some new snow on top! Chickadee and Blue Jays back country skiing. What a beautiful day for a ski. This light fluffy snow will be slow. Cold snow is slow snow. Cold snow is also squeaky.

All in all, a great day for a ski. Remember, when it is cold out, mittens are warmer than gloves. A hood is great. Layers to add or remove. Dry socks. Hand warmers help. And ask if you need anything.
