Most excellent mid winter skiing.

Open, 21º and snowing, 2.5 inches of snow last 24 hours. The skiing is so good and if we have learned anything it is to ski a lot while the skiing is good. 25 km classic and 6 km skate.

Ian groomed everything yesterday. So today you get to ski with that little topper of new snow. Icing on the cake, the best part. He also skied yesterday, reporting the Middle and Upper Blue Jay to still be a little soft.

If you have been waiting for the perfect day to ski a longer trail the time has come. This would be the perfect time for a Chickadee, Loon, Waite’s Loop, on to Upper Blue Jay then Middle Blue Jay and then down. In the old days we called that “An Ivanna”. This was Ivanna’s favorite ski and she did it even when the skiing wasn’t perfect.

With all the new snow and the temperatures being around 32º, Maxiglide has been a must on no wax skis. Today you shouldn’t need it. But bring it along if you have it, just in case.

The long term forecast looks great for good skiing. It is time to get out there!

Skiing today is as good as it gets.

Open, 13º 2.3 inches of new snow yesterday. 21 inches of snow since Friday night. Lots of new snow and cold temperatures make today the day to ski. Skiing is as good as it gets. Take a mental health day and ski. If you can’t ski today, the next 10 days, or so, according to the forecast, are all really, really good. All trails are open and re-groomed (Middle Blue Jay Monday afternoon). 25 km classes and 6 km skate.

The skiing is so good, the smiles so deep, I am sure there are cheeks with sore muscles.

And the otters. The last few years the otter tracks have gone from up on the Loon downhill following the brooks to the Woodcock, down the Snow Goose and then we think they go on down toward Hapgood Pond. Last week otter tracks were spotted on the Loon. And here are Ian’s photos to show the tracks on the Snow Goose.

We also have a new selection of ski gloves and lobster mittens. If you need new gloves, now is the time. Check them out in the outdoor sales area in the barn.

And it is still snowing…

Open, 31º at 10:30 am and snowing. The forecast high is 31º and snow continuing for most of the day. The skiing is great.

Groomed this morning: Chickadee, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Goshawk and Peregrine. Upper Blue Jay and Loon open, groomed yesterday. Ian has 2 trees to clear off the Middle Blue Jay, he will work on that next.

If you ski early on busy days you can avoid most of the crowds. Please fill out the contact tracing form online. Please keep your mask on your mouth and nose when you are in the base area. And please keep at least a ski distance away from other people.

And the website had been down. Somewhere in California our solar powered server wasn’t working. A little patience, and we are back up and running.

WINTER has arrived! Storm total 17 inches of snow.

Open, 26º and snowing. Forecast high 31º and snowing, windy, cold. I am so happy!!!!! Winter is here. And the skiing is good. I love this weather!!!!!!!!!!! Break out your warm clothes. Find your neck gaiter. If the wind is blowing watch for branches.

21 Km open. Ian is grooming with Big Red today. Which means we have enough snow and that just makes me giddy. Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse, Goshawk and Peregrine, all with the Pistenbully. Chickadee, Loon and Upper Loop of the Blue Jay, snow mobile and track sled. Middle Blue Jay is a work in progress.

21 km classic and 6 km skate. Plan from there.

5 inches of new snow overnight. 17 inches of snow, storm total. A friend told me on Friday afternoon that the secret is, when there is a good, but iffy snow storm in the forecast, the secret is to wear your pajamas wrong side out. He and his kids had done it the night before the 44 inch storm, and tadaa, big snow. So Friday night I turned my jammies inside out, and wow. I did it again Saturday night. I think now I will turn them back to right side out, and wait for another forecast where we need to wish and hope it into snow, snow, snow.

I love getting photos from skiers. Andrew sent me 9 photos yesterday. Besides skiing more this year he is learning to use film and develop his photos at home in his own darkroom. His photos are great and I am grateful he will share with us.

Me, I am knitting sweaters to while away my Covid time. I have finished 3 sweaters, I have 2 more that are in the process of getting sleeves.

I am watching many people ski more or learn to ski. I am hoping when Covid times have calmed down we keep skiing and taking photos and knitting sweaters.
