A Cold, Fabulous Day For A Ski!

From our friend George Forbes. 1/31/2019

Open, -9º at 7am, partly cloudy. Expected high 5º. The skiing is great. Ian groomed everything yesterday, and is out grooming everything again today. (Exception, no Loon.)  New favorite this year, Waite’s Place Loop. The picture below is on Chickadee. There were a few new Chickadee skiers yesterday, their lucky day. And today, another great Chickadee day! Or Snow Goose or Grouse. Or Peregrine.

Everything about yesterday was fabulous. Blue sky and fresh snow. Ian used the new snow machine and pulled the groomer around the upper trails. Old school narrow with one track. Snow in the trees and blue sky. Wow! Most of the day was blue sky. Then a few clouds started creeping in. Soon the sky was cloudy and the flakes starting floating down. The little snow squall became quite serious and everyone was covered in snow.

And then, snow, dumping. 1/30/2019

About 2 inches of snow fell in this little snow squall. And this also happened out there.

Why I wear a hat! 1/30/2019

The squall brought in the cold air. So, get out your long underwear. Cross country skiing does create body heat. But dressing smart and well allows skiing to be fun. Wear layers of wool, poly and/or fleece. Windproof is nice. Mittens, not gloves. A hat and an option of a hood. Neck warmers are wonderful! And if you need one more way to be warm add the hand warmers.
