Skiing Today, After Today, Day to Day

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 29º at 7:30 and sunny.  Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey and Grouse are open.

The skiing, well, the ground is covered and white. There is not enough snow to have a track. There are several people who have skied 2 or 3 days in a row and really enjoyed it. It could be better but it could be way worse.

The skiing isn’t perfect, but it is outside with fresh air. And today will feel like a lovely spring day. The temperature is expected to be in the low 40ºs and the warm temps will not help us hold onto good snow.

After today don’t be surprised if we are closed, on such marginal snow we are day to day. We don’t have enough snow to work magic with a groomer. So, after today be sure to check back here to make sure we are still able to be open with skiing.

WE NEED SNOW!!!! Please start doing your best snow dance!

Another Ski Day

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 19º at 7:30 a.m. and mostly sunny. Forecast high, 32º.

Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey and Grouse are open. Ian and crew have shoveled like crazy so the coverage is pretty good, but watch out for roots or stones.

The skiing is OK. Jud from Grafton skied Friday and Saturday. And will be back to ski today. Martha skied yesterday and said it was way better than fine, and she wished she could be back today!

The ski demo yesterday went really well. Very knowledgeable folks from West Hill Shop had about 20 pairs of skin skis for people to try. They matched up skis with skier and let people try out a few pair. Todd said one of the hard parts of an early season demo is that people may not have their ski legs under them yet. But it is nice to invest in a new pair of skis at the beginning of the season. Dick told us he’d been saving his quarters (literally) and he wasn’t sure what he was going to do with them, he is pretty sure he has enough quarters for a new pair of skis.

Happy Solstice, Come Out For A Ski

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 6º and a beautiful sunny morning.

Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey and Grouse are open. Ian and crew have shoveled like crazy so the coverage is pretty good, but watch out for roots or stones. After Alex’s ski yesterday she said, “it was pleasant.” And she brought her skis back last night to the Solstice party. So she is ready to ski again.

If we had more snow, the skiing would be better. But on the limited amount of snow we had the skiing is ok.

Cold Solstice party last night. Notice the log candle in the picture. I tried the log a couple years ago, with a log piece cut that day. Not a huge success. Ian cut the log in the picture in August and stored it in the barn. It lit with a little piece of birch bark. Worked so well it burned out before the party was over, and it was cold and the party ended early.

Skiing and Lots of Shoveling Going On Around Here

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 3º, clear skis, forecast high today, 18º, low tonight 3º.

The shoveling continues. Ian and Dick shoveled yesterday morning. Ian and the Burr and Burton ski team shoveled yesterday afternoon. Our snow moving equipment fleet has grown and is improving.

The Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, and Grouse are open with thin coverage. Packed out and smoothed out as much as 4 inches of snow allows. Ian is working on the Peregrine next.

The skiing isn’t perfect. It is thin and if you have a choice of skis, choose the old skis. Cliff said yesterday, “It is pretty good skiing for as little snow as there is.” Not perfect and not terrible.

If you are doing the solstice party tonight. Lots of layers. A head lamp. And a snow dance party attitude.

And plan on Ski Demo Day on Saturday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m. West Hill Shop will be here with skin skis for people to try. The skis have a mohair type strip on the base for grip. They work great and they are quieter than the plastic crown base skis.
