The Skiing Is Really Good

Open. The temperature at 7:00 a.m. is 21º. The forecast today, sunny with a high of 37º. The skiing is pretty darn good.

Great base with 1 inch of new snow again yesterday afternoon.

The skiing will be really good again today. Yesterday I was accused of underselling the skiing, I think I said the skiing was fine. Fine is one of those words whose meaning changes with the intonation of your voice and the intention with which the word is said. The skiing today, January 2, 2020 is fine, like a good bottle of wine fine. Not the sarcastic fine of “oh, fine”.

Because the temperature is going to go up today, if you want powdery snow you need to be out here early this morning. (And the trees are still snow covered and beautiful.) The skiing will be great all day  and as the temperature goes to around freezing, you will need the lighter weight clothing and   Maxiglide. Remember Maxiglide is to keep new snow from sticking to your skis. This happens with new snow and a temperature hovering around 32º. As some people learned yesterday, “Stickage stinks.”

Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and Peregrine are open. It is about 10 km. There is a classic track in for about 10 km and skating on 6 km.

January 1, 2020, A Great Day For A Ski

Open, 25º, partly cloudy. We had a quick 1.6 inches of snow overnight. The trees are still covered with ice and snow. It looks like a winter wonderland out there. The forecast is for 28º with a few snow flurries possible.

The skiing is quite good, all things considered. Ian packed all the trails with the roller unit you see above. And now he is pulling the Tidd Tech and will put a track in anywhere it will go in.

The Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and Peregrine are open. It is about 10 km. I don’t know is you will need Maxiglide,  bring it with you if you have it, just in case.

To recap the storm, .1 inches of ice, 2 inches of sleet and now 3 inches of snow on top. I know it doesn’t seem like a lot of depth, but the sleet it solid and good to ski on and makes this all skiable.

The Skiing Is Fine

Open, 28º at 9:40 a.m. The skiing is fine. The photo is E. skiing today, on her Christmas skis.

Peregrine, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey and Grouse. For a grand total of 10 km.

You will need Maxiglide on no-wax skis. The trails are packed, but there is not enough snow for a track.

But there is snow! And we have skiing! Yeah. That snow dance you’ve been doing, keep it up!

We’re Open, We Have Skiing! (Not All Trails)

Open, 26º at 7 a.m. and light snow falling. (The photo above is from this morning.)

Storm info: 1/10 inch of ice, 2 inches of sleet, 1 inch of snow. Total moisture in this mix 1.5 inches of water.

Ian is on a snow machine and packing out trails.

My best guess at 7 a.m. at the trails for today; Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and possibly Peregrine.  I will update this when we know (I will edit this page, not do a new post).

Skiing on sleet is great. It is really good base, which we were mostly out of, so that is a good thing. All of the white stuff will mix up nicely and the skiing will be ok. BUT, you will need Maxiglide on no-wax skis. The  snow mixture is wet and the forecast temperatures are are 32º.
