Skiing Is Really Good

Open, 1º at 7 am and thin cloud cover. Red sky this morning, snow is coming and the forecast high temperature for today is 19º.

As reported yesterday by Carl and John, “the skiing is really good!”

Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and Peregrine are open, that is about 10 km, with a track in. Turkey and Peregrine groomed for skating also, about 6 km.

From the Thursday storm we had about 7 inches of snow. The forecast for the next snow event, Saturday afternoon thru Sunday is for snow accumulations of 5 to 12 inches. Bring it on, Ian is ready to use the Ranger to groom with instead of the snow mobile. Maybe this will even be enough snow to get out the Snow Cat.

Really, we are just ready for cold weather and snow! The Friday afternoon ski kids enjoyed the snow and the cold yesterday. They have such a great time! There are 60-70 kids and about 20 adult helpers, great program, great kids!

Snow And Skiing, What A Day

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 2º at 6:30 am, and clear skies. Clear and cold today, at least colder than we are used to this year. Forecast high today 9º.

We had 2.6 inches of new snow this morning, and 3.9 inches of new snow Thursday morning. For a storm total (36 hours) of 6.5 inches of snow. The first snow was wet, Ian packed it out and then the temperatures started to fall and the snow started drying out. So, the blowing snow blew into the packed out trail, drifting and adding to the snow depth in the trails. I love it when it all works out the way we want it to.

Skiing will be good, some thin areas. Woodcock, Turkey, Snow Goose, Grouse and Peregrine will be open today. 10 km of skiing with a track in anywhere Ian can get it to go in.

The temperatures will be colder today than we are used to. That just means get those warm clothes out and wear them. Remember you make your own heat while you ski.

  • Dry clothes, mittens and socks
  • Mittens are warmer than gloves
  • Neck Gaiter
  • Hood on your coat
  • Wool is wonderful
  • Hand and toe warmers
  • A dry shirt to wear home

Open And Skiing Again on Friday, The 17th!

We will be open again tomorrow, Friday, the 17th of January.

It has snowed over 5 inches today, and there is still snow falling. The photo above is from today.

The coverage will be thin. (Hopefully the Saturday/Saturday night storm will fix that problem, 4 to 8 inches of snow predicted.)

I will let you know on Friday morning which trails will be open.

Need Snow!

Closed. (The photo is from Friday, January 10.)

It is 25º at 7:30 a.m. We had 1/2 an inch of snow overnight. I long for the winter where 1/2 of snow is not a big deal. But this year, it matters.

The forecast for the next 3 days: the temperature around 35º, rain/snow Tuesday night. Snow Wednesday night. Cold Friday and snow on Saturday. The prediction for the snow on Saturday is 5-10 inches. If this all happens the way it is predicted looks like we will be open again on Sunday.
