Skiing Suggestions and the Magic Forest

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 25º and cloudy. 20 km classic skiing, and 6 km skate skiing. Ian has groomed the low trails and they are beautiful. The skiing on the 90% of the low trails is really good, the other 10%, (a few spots on Woodcock and Snow Goose) a little thin in a few spots. The Chickadee will be bumpier, Loon bumpiest.

The Magic Forest is on the Peregrine. The skiing on the Peregrine is nice and this special spot is up on the top of the trail. Watch out for the new Bill’s Bumps sign too. Also, there is one extra bump on a downhill to watch out for.

This is Mary in the selfie with the Magic Forest sign. Mary reported yesterday the Chickadee was great! Today will be different. If you ski it come in the shop and tell us how it is. If you are in wondering if it is right for you today, ski the Peregrine, or come in and ask. Usually if you don’t like the first downhill on the Chickadee, you won’t like 6 km of the Chickadee, so, take your skis off and walk back up the road to the barn. There are some other choices.

NOTE******If you take any great pictures and would like to share them, stop in and talk to me. I love to get new photos and if you help that is the best!

A Dusting Of New Snow And Ian Is Grooming The Low Trails

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 27º and cloudy, with a few snow flakes falling. A dusting of new snow on the ground. 20 km skiing, 6 of those also skate skiing. Ian is grooming the low trails and they look nice! Grooming and a little new snow, good skiing. The Chickadee will be bumpier. Loon is bumpiest.

The tree in this photo gets its picture taken a lot. Dick marked this tree at 12 inch intervals up to 4 feet. So there is about 1 foot of snow at the high point on Upper Blue Jay. We have a few places we measure snow. In the backyard, 7 inches of snow. At Styles Junction, 13 inches of snow. At the high point on Upper Blue Jay, 10 inches. And out on the Snow Goose 11 inches of snow. If you look as you ski you will see Ian’s yard sticks sticking up. Don’t ski up to them, just look from afar. That way the measurement stays true.

We still have Skida Hats and neck warmers in the shop for sale. We also have another order for Sophie’s World hats on their way, the pattern in the picture below. When they get here, don’t procrastinate, they go fast!

Skiing Is Good, Being Outside, Priceless

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 12º, sunny. Clouding up later this afternoon, and 32º. Good skiing. 20 km open, 6 km of that for skate skiing. Skiing is good. And will be good for the weekend. There is a 40% chance of snow Saturday and Saturday night.

And while you are out there don’t forget to look around.  Heather took the top picture yesterday out on the Chickadee.  And Cliff took the shot below while skiing the Chickadee.

I Was Out For A Ski

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 5º, blue sky and sunny. Forecast high 30º and sunny. Skiing is good. 20 km open for classic, 6 km open for skate. The base is hard pack, with a track in most places. There is good snow coverage, no bare spots on lower trails, a few obstacles on upper loops

This post is a little later than usual, because Ian insisted I ski before I write.

The base is hard pack.

The track is good in most places.

Ian just took a machine around and loosened the surface snow beside the track.

The snow hardens up when the temperature drops. This morning the skiing was slow, because the snow was cold.

The skiing is good. It was really nice to out this morning! There are no bare spots, no extra snow, but snow coverage is good.

Ian did say up on the Chickadee, Loon and Upper Blue Jay there is a rock here or there poking through that can be skied around. Other people skiing up there have said it is good skiing and they didn’t see the emerging objects.

At the stake at the barn we have 7 inches of snow. At the stake at Styles Junction there is 13 inches of snow.

I know there may not be any or a lot of snow where you are, but here we have snow, and the skiing is good.
