Ohh, The Skiing Is Hard Pack Good, With A Dusting Of New Snow

Open, 11º at 6:30 am, and cloudy. Forecast high today, 21º and cloudy, maybe a few flakes of snow.

The picture above is this morning. Skiing is a nice hard pack surface with a little new snow from overnight on top. We are not grooming this morning. Ian groomed it all yesterday. Our grooming practice is, “to only groom if we can make it better.” Ian skied this morning and he can’t make it better. It is pretty darn nice.

A few quotes from yesterday, (we had a lot! of skiers) “That was amazing.” “That was really fun, some of the best skiing of the year.” ‘That was fabulous.” From Leah Slv, “It was sooo good today!” All from good skiers.

And from the beginners, it was their second time on skis, first time skiing two weeks ago for half an hour and yesterday for 3 hours, “That was good. It would have been easier for us, as beginners, if the snow was softer. We are tired. We went around the field a bunch of times and then did the Turkey, and then went around the Turkey again.”

So to summarize, the skiing is good. Quick, but really nice if you are an experienced skier. If you are a beginner, very skiable, but not as easy as if the snow were soft and forgiving.

Also we have a group lesson special today.

Open For Skiing Again

Open, 16º at 6:30 am, cloudy, with a red sunrise. Expected high 25º and cloudy skies. Ian is in the groomer putting in some tracks and rolling out some corduroy. He started on Chickadee, and is working on the Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse, Peregrine. I will update as I know more. Loon and the Bluejays will be fun  but watch out for branches or downed trees.

We had 2.5 inches of new snow. There was some rain and really, really wet snow mixed in early Thursday morning, then the snow fell and the wind blew. The wind helps dry the snow out, and the cold temperatures harden the snow back up.

So, we now have a very workable surface. Ian is using all the groomers today to get the best skiing we can with the snow we have. It looks good.

Expect frozen granular snow mixed with a powdery snow. a little fast, not slow. Too much new snow to use straight klister. Hard wax would work if reapplied after much distance.

And a chance for another 1-3 inches of snow today. The skiing for the weekend will be good!

Closed Today For Drying Out

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Closed today. 32º at 7 am and big globs of snow falling from the sky that are so, so wet. It did snow a couple inches over night. But could still turn back to rain this morning, and this is so wet we want to leave it alone and let it dry out and start again Friday morning.

Just to be clear, closed today, Thursday. Open again Friday.

If you are trying to make plans for the weekend, the skiing looks good. I will post a picture of the tracks tomorrow morning after Ian grooms.
