The skiing is sublime.

We are open and the skiing is sublime. 14º at 6 am and another 4.5 inches of snow since Friday morning. Forecast high 14º and partly sunny .

25 km classic and 6 km skate. Ian and Jonathan are out grooming, most will be groomed, but you may be lucky enough to get a loop with fresh powder.

So, no wimping out, we have all been waiting for winter. And it is here, in all it’s splendid glory. All that expensive clothing you have purchased over the years. Get it out and wear it. And then know you will be over dressed and sweaty. And you will need a dry shirt to wear home and layers so you can adjust as needed. Hat, neck gaiter, mittens, hand warmers, and smart layers. You’ve got this…….

BECAUSE the skiing is absolutely fabulous, sublime, magical. Better than you could ever hope for. So just get out here.

You will now see signs like the sign below on the Woodcock at the road crossings. We have had 4 vehicles stuck on the ski trails in the last 6 days. The last one, on Thursday night, went down this trail farther than the photo can see, around a corner and down the hill. He called his buddy to come tow him out. Ian found both trucks still stuck out there at 4:30am. He and Chuck pulled them off the trail at 6:30am. Between getting stuck, around midnight?, and getting pulled off the trail by Ian and Chuck, they shoveled the snow off the trail and into the woods. My long way of saying THANKS to the shovel crew that showed up to help Ian Friday afternoon at 4:30 to shovel snow back onto the trail! YOU all are sublime. (Sublime; excellence, grandeur, or beauty as to inspire great admiration or awe.)

The skiing is Magical.

Open, 24º at 6am. 3 inches of snow this morning. Snow in the forecast again today with the forecast high 27º. 25 km open, all trails. 25 km classic and 6 km skate. Upper trails groomed today, lower trails a little powdery, icing on the cake.

The skiing yesterday was described as magical. Dick had said pristine the day before. Let me know about your ski, you may get the word of the day.

Tim M. arrived yesterday ready to ski. Not looking overly excited about “going up above”. I suggested he ski the Chickadee/Loon, told him he would not be disappointed. He skied down saying his only regret was he had to go home to take some work calls. And he promised himself to get back today early. He told me he was going to do laps on Chickadee until his legs screamed stop. Laps have been happening. The skiing is so good. And we all know that isn’t always the case. So, ski while it’s magical, pristine, magnificent.

The love of skiing. What it’s all about. Loving the skis, the snow, the outdoors. Sophie, above on the right. Graham on the left. Just getting done with a lap on the Turkey. The kids in this area are fortunate to have such a great role model. For a kid to get to ski a lap with a world cup skier, who never stops smiling. Pretty magical right there.

Chickadee is Pristine

Open, 8º at 7am. Another 1/2 inch of snow yesterday afternoon and evening. Maybe snow again today with the forecast high 27º. Low trails groomed today, upper trails a little powdery

All trails open, 25 km classic and 6 km skate. The skiing is phenomenal! Dick said the Chickadee is the best ever! (In 35 years.) He is the person that called it pristine. And looking at the long term weather it will be cold, good skiing for about 10 more days. (And we all know the forecast could change tomorrow.)

GREEN MOUNTAIN POWER IS OUT HERE REPLACING A POWER POLE. WE MAY LOSE POWER. THIS MEANS NO MODEM/INTERNET OR PHONE. BRING CASH IS YOU HAVE IT. I HAVE A WAY AROUND NO MODEM, IT JUST ISN’T PERFECT. You will still be able to pay online, and that will still work for us. See you soon.

If you ski during the week, we are less busy than the weekend. Any day is less busy early in morning.

Covid notes, remember fill out the contact tracing form every time you ski. Link here. Always wear your mask around the base area. No exceptions. Keep your distance from others. There is no “warming room” this year. Your car is your spot, for boot changing and for warming up. And for keeping any of your gear. We do have the “Covid” shed, it is open on one side has picnic tables and benches, you can picnic there if you have warm, dry clothes for hanging out.

Please drive slowly on your way here, specifically thru Peru Village, down Hapgood Pond Rd and on North Road. Help us keep our neighbors happy. (I am not writing this because of complaints. Just a reminder to be a good neighbor. Thanks.)

Most excellent mid winter skiing.

Open, 21º and snowing, 2.5 inches of snow last 24 hours. The skiing is so good and if we have learned anything it is to ski a lot while the skiing is good. 25 km classic and 6 km skate.

Ian groomed everything yesterday. So today you get to ski with that little topper of new snow. Icing on the cake, the best part. He also skied yesterday, reporting the Middle and Upper Blue Jay to still be a little soft.

If you have been waiting for the perfect day to ski a longer trail the time has come. This would be the perfect time for a Chickadee, Loon, Waite’s Loop, on to Upper Blue Jay then Middle Blue Jay and then down. In the old days we called that “An Ivanna”. This was Ivanna’s favorite ski and she did it even when the skiing wasn’t perfect.

With all the new snow and the temperatures being around 32º, Maxiglide has been a must on no wax skis. Today you shouldn’t need it. But bring it along if you have it, just in case.

The long term forecast looks great for good skiing. It is time to get out there!
