Really good skiing through the weekend…and beyond!

Open, -1º at 6:00 am. Warming up to 17º today. Blue sky and another great ski day. 25 km classic and 6 km skate. All great skiing.

The skiing is really good. It is easy to overdress if you are new to Nordic skiing. Dress in layers and bring some dry clothes for the drive home.

This weekend is a busy one. If you ski early there are less people. Please remember to follow the State of Vermont’s guidelines for Covid safety. Please fill out the contact tracing form online. And while around the base area and parking lot wear your mask! Please also practice staying a poles length away from people not in your party.

And one last photo. There is a ski trail in this photo, and I tried cropping it, but I really like the photo like this. Sorry about not focusing on the ski trail. If only I were a bird!

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all …

Emily Dickinson

The skiing is magically sublime.

Open, 7º at 7 am. Partly cloudy. The forecast is 22º and partly cloudy. The skiing is either sublimely magical, or magically sublime. Martha couldn’t decide which.

All trails are open. The skiing is really, really good!

This is Jud.

Jud will be giving a few clinics, not a beginner clinic, but work on your downhill clinic. This clinic will be from 1 to 1:30 pm starting on February 12th, Friday. Again on Saturday, the 13th and on Sunday, the 14th. All from 1 to 1:30 pm. These are not beginner lessons. But movement clinics. If you go through one of these clinics with Jud, come by and put $10 in a jar. We can at least buy him a beer at the end of the day.

If you would like a full on lesson, we still have some opening for the weekend. You can call to get a spot. These are private lessons, (Covid rules, the lesson must be a family group.) $50 per person. And the lesson is about an hour. Lessons are taught by Sverre or Hilary. You would be lucky to get either one.

This photo is on the Turkey. The skiing and the scenery are both outstanding. One ten year old I showed this photo to, to see if she liked it, told me this photo was nice. But I needed to get out on the Snow Goose, in the pine trees, because that was “really” pretty.

Ian skating in the old field. There is a video of him skating. If you like to watch a little skating, it is on Instagram. The Instagram account is wildwingsski. You can watch the video there. And if you take a photo and post on Instagram, you can tag us, #wildwingsski.

The skiing just gets better every day.

Open, 10º at 6 am and snowed 4.3 inches of snow yesterday, right this minute, clear skies. Forecast high 22º, and sun. 25 km classic and 6 km skate. Ian is out grooming, but has left you some fresh powder on the Middle and Upper Blue Jay and the Loon. All other trails packed and tracked. (Skate lane is firm! Ian packed it with the PistenBully.) And it is Ian’s birthday. Someone bring the birthday groomer a donut!)

Happy, happy skiers from yesterday! Quote from Tara, “It was the best ski of my life today! Didn’t see one person. I needed the peace! Thank you!!!” Photo thanks to Tara!

Twelve skiers from Stratton Mountain School toured the Chickadee. A little wind and then a snowy, cold neck. Photo thanks to George.

I will be announcing times for a snow plow clinic tomorrow. Need to talk to Jud.

Skiing; fluffy, sparkly and soft!

ra-5a4bd91746f71523

Open, 11º at 6 am, with light now falling. Forecast today, 23º and snow, 1-3 inches.

All trails open, the skiing is soft and powdery. 25 km classic and 6 km skate. The Peregrine was a great ski yesterday, and the Chickadee was amazing.

Today you will be skiing on a groomed, tracked surface with new snow on it. It is lovely and soft to ski on. If you have clear glasses to help keep the snow out of your eyes while you ski, this is a great day to wear them.

The Ticket booth above is how we do it these days (on busy days). You can buy your ticket online or in the parking lot. If you need a rental, you and your party get to go to the barn. Filling out a Covid contact tracing form is required to ski, and is easier to fill out at home. Manageable once you get here, but easier at home.

Ian did a little grooming yesterday on the Middle and Upper Blue Jay. He was widening, a little, and smoothing out the snow and getting ready for today’s snow.

And we have interest in snow plow clinic. I now will talk to a few instructors and get dates posted soon!
