Mid winter temperatures are back. The skiing is pretty good.

Open, 4º out there today. And windy, and sunny with blue sky. The low trails were groomed yesterday morning with the PistenBully. We are grooming the low trails today with the smaller machine to scratch up the surface. The skiing is pretty good, the temperature is low and the wind makes it cold.

The high today will only be about 20º, but where the sun hits the snow, the snow will soften, a little. Day light savings time means high, warmest sun 11:30 to 3:00 ish at 20º. But at 20º, slower will happen in the sun, fast in the shade.

Looks like we will be boiling again late Wednesday. Sugaring weather, warm days and cold nights. Warm days will allow all the trails to be open again. The forecast looks like we will be able to work on that this week.

Spring (varies with the sun) skiing. Groomed this morning.

Open, 25º at 7 am and sunny. Expected high 30º, with snow showers possible this afternoon.

This is what the skiing looks this morning after being groomed. The low trails only, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse, and Peregrine.

Yesterday, at 34º the sun softened the snow enough skiers were able to make ruts, which the second the sun went behind the trees froze up. The skiing went from manageable to fast in 10-20 minutes. The snow got pretty tricky around 2 pm. The best skiing yesterday was from about 8 am until 2 pm. And Joe won the prize.

Today Day Light Savings Time starts (spring ahead), so the sun works to slow the snow down between 11 and 3. To start out today, the skiing is a loose granular, sugary surface, skiable, but quick. Some people think fun. Some people think fast. The sun will soften the snow this morning. And the weather on my phone is saying 36% chance of snow starting at 1 pm.

And if the sun disappears and if it snows, the ski conditions will change (slow down). The weather always effects the skiing. Spring skiing, variable conditions. Slow in the sun, fast in the shade. The snow can change quickly. We do our best in the morning. And we can groom again tomorrow morning. But expect changing conditions.

And the road. The road hardens up at night, creating ruts. And softens in the sun, just like the snow. Drive slow, aim high, don’t stop. We are feeling like the road is pretty good right now. Everything in perspective, right?

Cold, spring skiing. Sugary, loose granular.

Open, 28º at 7 am, blue skies and sun! Cold spring skiing. The forecast high is 34º, sun all day. The middle of the day the snow will be the softest, when the sun is the highest, today, 11 to 3 ish. (Tomorrow daylight savings time starts and the time will be later.) Ian is grinding it up. He uses both the plow to break up the snow and the tiller. Open today, Woodcock Snow Goose, Turkey, Grouse and Peregrine.

The road………is now frozen. The road guys worked on it yesterday. A big thank you to Wayne and Brian! The road will still have ruts. Drive slow.

And the skiing will be fast.

Open, expected high in the morning 16º and sunny, with the day time high around 24º. Ian will be grinding up the snow with the snow cat, but let’s not pretend. It is going to be fast. The best skiing will be between 11 and 3 when the sun has the most effect on the snow. The skiing will be skiable and some skiers will say fun and will love it. This kind of fast is usually not beginner friendly.

PS.. the online store is off for the time being. I don’t want anyone buying without knowing the skiing will be quick.

And the road. The last few days were really warm. The road crew dumped in gravel and used the road grader, but where is was really muddy today, there are ruts and there are pot holes. Drive slow. This photo was from Friday and really the photo doesn’t look near as bad as it drove. But those ruts, they will be freezing in. Again, drive slow.

And we gathered sap for 24 hours and boiled for 7 hours and made 1 and 3/8 gallons of syrup. Ian is taking home a half gallon. And the rest goes to the highest bidder.
