Hard pack surface, low trails. Packed powder skiing, upper trails, great skiing!

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 am is 0º. The forecast high today is 22º. Great sun rise early, clouding up later.

The low trails are hard packed snow. The skate lane is good and the track is solid. Watch out for beech leaves, darn old beech trees. Beech trees drop their leaves all winter instead of in the fall. They will blow until uneven snow catches them, like a ski track, or a foot print. Beech trees do produce beech nuts, which are a source of high fat food for bears in the fall.

The upper trails are packed powder and the photos above are taken on the Chickadee. Photos thanks to Mikaela. The skiing up there is lovely. Waite’s Place Loop is especially good today.

Fantastic skiing, packed powder, and the wind has died down.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6:30 is 0º. The forecast high is 17º, the sun is out, and the wind has died down. We came out of the storm with about 12 inches of new snow. Snow on the ground at the stake today, 32 inches.

The skiing will be really, really great. The Pisten Bully is out doing its thing putting in a nice track and a firm skate lane. The base is packed powder. The wind has died down, but the snow on the ground is wind blown and that makes it a little bit slow. Ian has all the low trails groomed with the snow cat. Jonathan is on a snow machine and is working on the Middle and Upper Blue Jay. He was able to get the Chickadee groomed yesterday.

A little insight on the behind the scenes. The chainsaw has been used a lot over the last 36 hours. Major blow downs and small blow down. As long as they are able to walk on the ski trail, they would only sink in a couple of inches. Stepping off the trail is up to the crotch deep. At that point the only option is crawling back to trail, knees and elbows. Not hands, elbows. This storm has been a long haul. Special thanks to the grooming crew!! Somebody bring them a breakfast sandwich!

Today is a great day to get outside!

Open, and “the skiing is really good.” Quote from a happy, warm skier.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 7:30 is 7º. The wind is still blowing, but not as gusty as yesterday.

Andy K. says, “Get out and ski, the skiing is good and I warm! Way better than being cooped up in a condo with a bunch of kids.”

10 am update: Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Peregrine, and Grouse are cleared and groomed. The skiing is good and it is slow. (Wind blown snow is slow.) We are onto the upper trails.

Closed for the day. Too darn windy.

We are closing today. The wind is too much and it doesn’t seem safe to be in the woods.

We have had about a foot total of snow and sleet. So we will have great skiing again, after we pick up sticks and branches and whatever else blows into the trails.
