Open at 9 am. The temperature at 6 am is 31º. The forecast for the day is 30º. We had 4.7 inches of new snow.

New snow, and everything is beautiful again. Ian is in the snow cat on the low trails. The track is good, the skate lane is setting up. Good skiing. Check when you get here for an update on the upper trails. As the temperature continues to drop during the day, the skiing will get faster.

And the weekend forecast, a little snow possible for Friday night, 23 º. High on Saturday 38º, snow and rain in the morning. Low Saturday night, 1º. Sun and 15º on Sunday.

Ok skiing. An inch and a half of new snow.

Open at 9 am. An inch and a half of new snow. The temperature at 8 am is 28º, the forecast high today is 39º, with a mix of precipitation.

The photo above is from yesterday. So the new snow is on top of this base.

Let’s talk about the base. It starts out the morning as frozen granular. As the temperature warms up, it turns to loose granular. For example only, everyday is different, yesterday morning until about 9 am it was really hard and fast. By 9:10 am, when the temperature was up to 35º it had loosened up enough to be fast, loose granular and very skiable. By 9:45 am it was loose granular, wet and slow.

We will not be grooming today. The temperature is suppose to go from 29º to 39º. The forecast is for a mix of snow/sleet and freezing rain. Hoping the weather and temperature allow grooming on Friday morning. I will let you know.

Now to share a comment from the website, and to answer a question.

The photo above was taken Wednesday, the 26th, during a lesson for four friends. And this quote from Diana, after her lesson on Monday, “a shout out to cross country ski instructor Hilary Dahlstrom for an amazingly fun and helpful ski lesson yesterday. So glad we got it in just under the wire of the transition from winter to spring skiing! I love spring skiing but nothing compares to the the past few weeks of true winter skiing. Let’s hope it stages a return soon!”

So if you have been wanting to improve your skiing skills, ask about a lesson with Hilary.

And I mentioned the other day a 16.6 km loop Andy was doing. Three loops are close to 50 km. Here in Andy’s words is the explanation of this ski; “The 2025 route I like is: Woodcock / Snow Goose (w/o McQuaig’s), then Chickadee-Loon-Waite’s, then Middle BJ and Upper BJ, then straight downhill to headquarters. 3x is close to 50k.”

Sunny, spring skiing.

Open, 32º at 7 am. The forecast high for today is 39º, the sun is shining and the skiing is springy.

Spring skiing, fast in the morning, slowing down with the temperature and the sun. All trails are open.

Lots of groups of kids this year. Flood Brook JISP (Junior Instructional Ski Program) has been here every Tuesday. They have one Tuesday left. West River Sports BKL program skis here on Fridays with about 100 kids. The Dorset School 8th grade was here 10 days ago. The Dorset School 7th grade gets to ski this Friday. It is exciting seeing so many kids on skis.

All trails open, spring skiing.

Open at 9 am. The temperature at 7 am is 30º. The forecast high for today is 43º. We could see some snow flakes or rain drops, or not.

The skiing is good, fast this morning. This is spring skiing. The skiing will be fast until the temperature warms up and it softens up.

The snow pack is compressing with the warmer temperatures. But the snow banks are still big. The dormers on our roof slid last night and blocked the door to get out. That hasn’t happened for a few years.

Animals are moving around, watch for animal tracks. You never know what you might get to see.
