10 km open. Loose granular surface 1/2 inch new snow on top. Decent skiing.

Open, 27º at 7 am. Forecast high 35º, with sun and clouds.

10 km of skiing, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, and Peregrine. All groomed flat. (Not enough snow for a track yet.) The skiing is fair to decent to good. This is a lovely day to be outside. The folks who skied yesterday had good ski and said they would be back today.

Ian spent yesterday working on smoothing the snow on the trails. Around and around pulling different pieces of grooming equipment. Shoveling and pushing snow around. All in all some pretty decent skiing. The last mess of a storm left us with a net gain and a better base.

The upcoming weather and weekend. This is my best guess. We are open today, Friday. We will be closed tomorrow, Saturday. And will reopen Sunday.

My best guess on the weather; partly sunny during the day today. Snow starting tonight around 10 pm. Snow during the night, switching to rain by Saturday morning. Windy overnight. Starting warm on Saturday morning, temperature dropping later in the day and freezing overnight on Saturday night.

Then we wake up on Sunday morning and do what we can to get skiing.

Open. Low trails.Work continues.

Open. 28º and cloudy. 10 km, low trails open. “The skiing is mostly fine.” Direct quote from Ian. He has been around and around with the powder maker. The first skiers said, “fast and soft, and humpy and bumpy.”

We had 6 inches of snow Tuesday afternoon/evening before it switched to rain, the rain and warm temperatures lasted about 15 hours. (1.95 inches of water total between snow and rain in 24 hours.) Tuesday night, here, at Wild Wings, we had no wind. But, last night, Wednesday, the wind blew hard. So there are sticks to pick up and could be some blow downs. Ian is working on it.

We had a net snow gain, we have more snow this morning, that we did Tuesday morning. Looking at the next few days Friday night/Saturday looks like a weather repeat. If we get snow again Friday night, then the switch to rain, we should be ok again Sunday morning. BUT that means if it is raining on Saturday, we will be closed.

We just keep moving forward. One step at a time working with what is out there.

Closed today.

Closed. 34º at7:30 am and raining. Snow total before rain was 6 inches, it rained from midnight to 7am. The total precipitation was 1.96 inches of water.

This snow will have to dry out before we can groom it or ski on it. We will open again as quickly as we can. Possibly Thursday.

Chuck is plowing this morning and that looks miserable. Wayne, the town road foreman, is plowing the town roads with the road grader. It is so heavy and so wet out there.

But, in the end this will give us some substantial base. 3-5” of slushy snow will freeze up nicely, if left untouched. Stay tuned for stick picking up and shoveling details.

Just enough snow, but ok skiing. 10 km open.

Open, 16º at 7 am and a beautiful red /pink sunrise.

10 km skiing open. Thin coverage, but the skiing is ok. Good in spots, thinner in spots, but overall makes for a great day. Many people who skied yesterday will be back to ski again today.

Ian groomed Sunday night. And shoved snow onto trails yesterday. No grooming today, he can’t make it better.

Two more photos from yesterday below.

But, before photos let’s talk about the next couple of days weather. The forecast is for snow tonight, changing to rain overnight, with wind. Wednesday’s high temperature is 42º and rain, then changing back to snow. Our PLAN, as of Tuesday morning. Closed Wednesday, probably Thursday. I will let you know here after the weather has its way with us and we can make the call. We will get open again as quickly as we can.
