Open, 36º, cloudy skies. Forecast, cloudy and 45º. Really good spring skiing. 24 km of classic tracks and 4.5 km of skate.
A little taste of spring this week. Great spring skiing. You won’t be cold. Another great day to ski the Chickadee. Watch for animal tracks, a coyote has been wandering all over up on the Peregrine. There are turkeys up there too. Lots of rabbit and weasels. Someone came in the Saturday and thought they saw moose tracks. Let me know what you see. With the warm weather the animals will move a little more looking for food.

Ok, I’m reporting my animal sighting. Not a moose but a mouse crossed the Chickadee right in front of me just before where the Upper Jay joins the trail. The little varmint seemed intoxicated, maybe on a fermented apple or it was the rarity of bright, warming winter sun when we were still in that long, never ending cold spell on Saturday. Anyway he/she tottered over every cranny in the snow including the track until he reached a little hemlock, maybe 10’ tall, which he proceeded to climb. A skilled climber it turned out and he stopping at 5’ to watch me as I pointed him out with my ski pole to my friend. Oops he wasn’t there any more so I kept looking until I spotted him at the very top of the spindly hemlock munching on some needles. And I thought mice lived under the snow in winter!
