Cold nights, 21º, help the ground freeze. After drought most of the summer/early fall, it is funny to see water standing around on the trails. I have done a lot of ditching and clearing of leaves, but I need to clean the leaves out of culverts again.
Open, 19° at 6 am. Packed powder with a half-hearted attempt at a dusting of new snow. 17 km of skiing. Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk, Peregrine, and Chickadee. The tracks are nice and the skate lane has set up.

Suggestions for the Cold
Dress in layers (on your legs too).
Try to avoid cotton.
Neck warmers and hoods help.
Mittens are way warmer than gloves.
Hand warmers or toe warmers are helpful.
Carry a knapsack. If you overdress you can carry your extra clothes.
When Nordic skiing we all warm up quite a bit. So that makes it a great sport for cold weather (No chairlift). Sweating does happen. A dry shirt to wear for your second lap and/or to wear home is really nice.
