Open, 18º and a mostly clear sky. Sunshine today and a forecast high of 40º.
The skiing is really good. This morning is mid-winter skiing. Yesterday the 2 inches of powder snow tilled in with the snow underneath left a really great surface. Fresh mid-winter snow, fabulous skiing. If you are looking for faster, powdery snow skiing, ski first thing this morning. Plan on being done by 10:30/11:00. Ian re-groomed Turkey and Grouse last night and the Chickadee Sunday around noon.
20 km open, Turkey, Woodcock, Snow Goose, Grouse, Goshawk, Peregrine, and Chickadee.
The lower trails are packed wide with a firm skate lane and really good track. The Chickadee is more back country, packed and tracked with a single track. More narrow.
Some skiing from yesterday:
And a few skiers from yesterday:
A few notes on spring, mud season in Vermont:
After this morning, the sun and temperature will warm the snow and the snow gets soft and slow. Which is typical in the spring. The snow will freeze tonight and warm up the next day to corn snow. Which will soften when the temperature and sun warm the snow again the next day slowing the skiing down. And so on.
The roads also freeze and thaw. The road has washboards, pot holes and ruts. Aim high, drive slow, and don’t stop.

Happy first day of spring! Such a beautiful day!
I am concerned about your sugaring, as I have noticed that you have not hung your buckets on the trees near the parking lot this year.
I am hoping that the spring snows have not interfered with this project.
Thank you for today and all the lovely experiences we have had in your woods.

You have skied so many days this year! We have chosen not to sugar this year. We will just take a year off.
